Meeting Activities

Activities followed the attached program. Specifically, after the welcome and a brief introduction of Prof. Rossi aiming at presenting different approaches (reactive and proactive) and measures in coping with droughts, prof. Vagliasindi showed exerts from the technical annex of the project to remind the expected deliverables and the timetable of activities. Partners were also updated on the status of the second advance payment which is being delayed by cost reporting problems with one of the participating partners (the problem raised pertains to the accounting procedures used by the administration of the participating institution which are different from the one accepted by the Commission).

Presentations by each partner followed showing preliminary results on Work Package 3.

Guidelines and deadlines for the remaining work packages were presented and discussed by all the leading and participating partners.

Main decisions

The following decisions were taken during the MidWay WAM-ME meeting:

 the IV co-ordination meeting will be held in Rome on February 21-23, 2002. Partners at CINSA will be encharged with the organization of the meeting;

Mid-Way (3 rd

) Coordination Meeting Schedule and Report

 the II Workshop will be organized, tentatively (PLAN A), in Cairo (Egypt) on

September 27-October 2, 2002. The role of groundwater in integrated water management under drought condition will be the theme of the Workshop;

Alternatively (PLAN B), the Workshop could be held in Crete conjunctively with the

Mediterranean Symposium on Water Reuse (September 23-26, 2002) which is sponsored by IWA and chaired by Dr. A.N. Angelakis, Water Resources and

Environment Division, National Agric. Research Foundation, Institute of Iraklio

(Greece). Dr. Angelakis has been contacted and was eager to have the WAM-ME meeting as a parallel event at the referred symposium.

 the III Workshop will be held in Valencia conjunctively with an international specialty conference organized by UPV;

All the documents related to the project will be made available to all the partners through download routines from the WAM-ME web site

( http://www.dica.unict.it/users/fvaglias ). The project web-site will be updated by

November 15, 2001. All the partners are urged to signal any troubles in the downloading routines.
