Formation of increase (decrease) of the number of actual population by settlement type Definitions and methodology Natural increase (decrease) – the difference between the number of newborns and the number of deaths. Data on the number of birth and deaths are based on statistical working out of birth and deaths acts which are being filled in at the departments of acts of civil state at the time of registration of corresponding events. Migratory balance (migratory increase (decrease) of population) – the difference between the number of those who arrived to a given location and those who left its borders. Data on the number of arrived and departed are worked out on the basis of information on registration (removal from the registration record) of the place of residence of a person which is filled out in the bodies of the State Migration Service of Ukraine. Total increase (decrease) of urban and rural population – equals the sum of natural increase (decrease) of population, population increase (decrease) due to migration and part of the population that went from village to urban and vice versa due to the transformations of administrative divisions (according to legislative acts). Administrative-territorial transformations – transformations of administrative-territorial structure as a result of the formation and abolition of districts, city councils, councils of rural localities and rural councils, cities, urban type settlements, rural settlements; changes of limits of a region, districts, urban councils of rural localities councils and rural councils, cities, urban type settlements; changes of the category of settlements (attribution of a city to the category of a city of regional importance, attribution of a urban type settlement to the category of a city, attribution of a rural settlement to the category of an urban type settlement or vice versa); renaming or defining the name of a region, districts, city councils, councils of rural localities and rural councils, cities, urban type settlements, rural settlements more precisely. Data about administrative-territorial transformations are based on official materials: decrees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, decrees of the Verkhovna Rada of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, resolutions of regional and city (cities of special status) councils. Urban population – a population residing in urban settlements. Rural population – a population residing in rural areas. Urban settlements – settlements that are approved by legislative acts as cities/towns and urban type settlements. Rural settlements – villages and rural localities regardless of their administrative subordination. Total increase of population per 1000 of actual population – the ratio of total increase of population to the average annual number of actual population. Total coefficient of natural increase (decrease) of population (natural increase (decrease) per 1000 actual population) – the ratio of the absolute value of natural increase (decrease) of population to the average annual number of actual population or as the difference between total coefficients of birth and mortality. Migratory balance (migratory increase (decrease) of population per 1000 persons of resident population) – the ratio of migratory increase of population to the average annual number of resident population or the difference between the total coefficients of arrivals and departures.
