ANNOUNCEMENT OF TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION
Description: The Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
anticipates one tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education beginning August 24, 2003. Responsibilities
include teaching 12 undergraduate credits per semester in mathematics in support of the department’s majors, with
primary responsibility for courses in the Mathematics-Secondary Education Emphasis. The position also requires
providing overall leadership and guidance in the area of mathematics education, including coordination with the
university’s College of Education and with area school districts. In addition to teaching duties, the successful
candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly development, and to participate in service
activities including (but not limited to) advising students, committee responsibilities, program assessment and
curriculum development. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in
teaching as well as grant writing and continued scholarly activity. An ability to integrate computers into teaching is
required.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate in mathematics, mathematics education, or related discipline is required.

General Information: The UW-Whitewater Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences offers a range of
undergraduate programs in mathematics, computer science, and mathematics education, and also lends support to a
nationally recognized inter-college Management Computer Systems major. The department is active in the Wisconsin
Space Grant Consortium program. There are currently 33 faculty and academic staff in the department.
Founded in 1868, UW-Whitewater is a premier regional public university with an enrollment of approximately 10,500
students in 43 undergraduate majors and 14 graduate degree programs. It offers high-quality career-oriented programs
integrated with a model general education curriculum. UW-Whitewater is part of the 26-campus University of
Wisconsin System. Located in a community of approximately 12,000 residents near the scenic Kettle Moraine State
Forest in southeastern Wisconsin, Whitewater is within convenient driving distance to the metropolitan areas of
Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago.
