Henderson aehenderson@henrico.k12.va.us QUESTION: Ever wanted to explore a real shipwreck and the pirate who made it famous? Using various forms of technology, you will be given the opportunity to explore the shipwreck, Queen Anne’s Revenge, and the life of Blackbeard, a famous pirate. PLAN: Working in three groups of four, you will explore The Queen Anne’s Revenge Shipwreck and Blackbeard the Pirate by researching and collecting data via the Internet, book resources, and interviews. Each group will create a timeline for your research. This timeline will be used to keep your research in chronological order. Using Keynote, each group will then create a multimedia presentation to present to your class. SCHEDULE: This project will take four weeks. Three weeks will be comprised of research, and the last week will be used for creating the Keynote Presentation. Create a calendar to keep you on track for the four weeks. PROJECT: Each group will choose one of the following topics and research it. Your multimedia presentation will be presented to the other groups. 1. Research the life of Blackbeard. This includes childhood, education, real name and upbringing, work experience, later life, and how he died. Make sure this is a comprehensive review of his interesting life. 2. Research the history of Blackbeard’s Queen Anne’s Revenge. This includes the building of the ship, description, ownership, countries belonged to, voyages, and destruction. Also describe the outlay of the ship after the sinking. 3. Research the archeologists’ finding of Queen Anne’s Revenge. Include objects that have been found and are being restored. For the QAR Project, include field reports, artifacts, conservation and lab reports, environment, and history. Be sure and include the layout of the wreck as it is underwater. Short footage of the divers underwater may be included in your Keynote Presentation.
