Dear Visitor, It is a great pleasure to welcome you on the official website of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, which Egypt will host from the 7th till the 10th of May, 2012 in the city of Sharm El Sheikh. Fifty years ago, Egypt was among the founding members of the NAM, which evolved from an entity of 25 Member States into a Movement comprising of 120 Member States from Africa, Asia, Europe as well as South and Central America and the Caribbean. Bound by a great history, doctrine and a strong determination to achieve a better future, the NAM continues to play a key active role on issues of common concern and vital importance to the Movement’s peoples, including the Palestinian issue, the maintenance of international peace and security, disarmament, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing dialogue among civilizations and religions. As we prepare to hand over the Chairmanship of the NAM to Iran, I am proud to declare that the Movement, under Egypt’s Chairmanship, continued to defend and promote the interests and priorities of its peoples along the lines set by the founding fathers, albeit in a manner that responds to the needs and challenges of the 21st century. I look forward to welcoming the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of NAM Member States and all the participants in the upcoming Ministerial Meeting, the first international conference to be held in Egypt following the glorious 25th of January Revolution. I am confident that this Meeting will provide an additional opportunity for NAM Member States to assess recent developments and adopt common positions on many issues of common interest. With my best regards, Mohamed K. Amr Minister for Foreign Affairs Arab Republic of Egypt
