Full breakfast only £3.00! See you there. Today: It is interesting and very understandable to note that, when Jesus was transfigured, the apostles were really frightened. The opening words of the angel to Mary, were, “Don’t be afraid…” The angels told the shepherds not to be afraid. I’m sure there are over a hundred times in the Gospels when Jesus says, “Fear not…don’t be afraid….Why did you fear, oh you of little faith?” The word “Fear” is mentioned in the Bible for the first time immediately after Adam and Eve disobeyed God. We are told that “they hid, because they were afraid”. It is possible that Jesus is really telling us that “the harm done in the Garden now undone, so, please let go of the fear. There is no need for that any more”. Please remember in your Prayers: Those who have died recently, especially Kathleen Nevett, whose Requiem Mass is on Monday 9th March at 12.10pm; please remember them and their families at this very sad and difficult time. Parish Hall: Work will begin in the hall this Monday 2nd March and will take approx 3 weeks. The cost of dealing with the damp issues will be approx £3950 + VAT which does not include painting. We will need a team of helpers to clean the hall and hopefully this can be addressed on Wednesday 11th March prior to having it painted. Can you help with this? Please let Debra know. Lent: Due to the ongoing works to the parish hall we cannot meet in the hall for a bowl of soup and a roll after 12.10pm Mass each Wednesday. Once the works are complete the lunches will resume. On Sundays we have the Stations of the Cross at 3pm and on a Friday evening at 7.00pm; it would be good if you could come along as a family. We have four deanery Station Masses, and they are as follows, please note the change: Wednesday – 4th March – Holy Trinity, Newark Wednesday - 11th March – Our Lady of Victories, Southwell Wednesday – 18th March—St Joseph’s, New Ollerton Wednesday – 25th March – Our Lady Help of Christians, Kirkby Each evening will begin with Adoration at 7.00pm; confessions will be heard during this time and Mass will begin at 8.00pm. St Philip’s Deanery Station Reconciliation: On Thursday 26th March at 7.00pm Holy Trinity, Newark Reconciliation: On Monday 30th March at 7.30pm. Next weekend - The Diocesan Quota Collection: We ask you to support the second collection next weekend which is for the Diocesan Quota. With costs rising all the time the diocese needs to maintain the Education Service at Mackworth, the Youth Service at the Briars, Safeguarding (Child Protection), University Chaplaincies, Ecumenical Bodies and Marriage Care and the Bishop’s maintenance. Please support us as best you can; as a parish we pay £1,878 a month as a quota and the shortfall from this comes out of the main parish collection. New Vestments, Chalices & Servers Albs: Many “thanks” to all who have contributed so very generously to the renewing and updating of the above items. We have a short-fall of about £550 before we can say that all the items have been donated. If you would like to help this fund by making a donation then please speak with Fr Malachy. Many thanks. General Election 2015: The Bishops of England and Wales have written a joint letter to all Catholics encouraging us to participate and vote in the election and offering some key issues and questions for reflection on where candidates stand. Copies are available in the narthex or via www.catholicnews.org.uk;
