PREPARATORY PROCESS & SEQUENCES FOR PREPARATION OF TIE DYE YARN.
Tie & Dye process world wide known as Ikat is perhaps one of the oldest technique in
textile industry to ornament the fabric. Which is total different from ornamentation of fabric in
textural design & printing design.
Various preparatory process and their sequences adopted in this technique one:
1. Scouring and bleaching in case of cotton or degumming in case of silk.
2. Yarn grouping.
3. Tieying accrding to the design.
4. Dyeing.
5. Washing & drying.
6. Resisting
7. Dyeing.
8. Washing & Drying.
9. Resisting, Dyeing, Washing and drying for several times as per the shads required.
10. Untying ( including resisting material)
11. Separation of individual yarn from group for weaving purpose.
This skilled and complex processing is essentially, a process of tyeing of grouped yarn
according to design, dipping these ties groups in dye both so that the dye solution can penetrate
only in the united portions without affecting the tied portions and then resisting the dyeing
repeatedly as per need of shads of the required design, thus bringing out number of colours on the
same thread at different portions. This can be done only manually which depends only on the
skillness and craftsmanship of a weaver.
