3. What are the major muscle groups responsible for extension for the hip in the “second
pull” in Weightlifting? Are they used to a major degree in any other phases of the
competition lifts? If so, where?
4. What nutritional advice would you give a weightlifter in heavy training, especially if the
lifter needs to increase bodyweight?
5. A lifter on your team has developed a problem of losing the majority of his maximal jerks
in front. Suggest a possible cause of this problem and describe two (2) assistance
exercises that can be introduced to the training program to remedy the situation.
6. Your club team is preparing for the American Open Championships. List ten (10) items
of essential equipment you would take with you to service your team at the competition.
Give brief reasons for the inclusion of each item.
7. List the four (4) characteristics, which are identified as being common to the respected
coach.
8. In teaching a skill, compare the methods of whole-part-whole and progressive stages.
Illustrate your answer by using both methods to teach the Power Clean.
9. What are the three (3) types of muscle contractions? Illustrate how these types of
contractions are used by three (3) muscle groups in the Snatch.
10. Explain how the combined center of gravity (COG) changes during the pull in the Clean.

11. You coach a lifter who is 4 kg overweight for the 77 kg category seven days prior to a
major championship. Outline the advice you would give him to ensure he made weight at
the event. If he was 1 kg over on the morning of the event, what procedures would you
put him through to ensure he weighed 77 kg or less?
12. Your team is traveling to the National Junior Championships. Outline how you would
appraise the venue to make sure you could service your team efficiently.
