HYSHAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROJECT The sidewalk in front of the old grocery store and café has become a hazard and the chamber is trying to get it replaced before the end of May. ATHLETIC BANQUET – HYSHAM BOOSTER CLUB The Hysham Booster Club will host the Athletic Banquet on Sunday, April 21st starting at 5 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room. Hysham High School football, volleyball, basketball and track will be honored. The community is invited to join in on this potluck. For planning purposes the Booster club requests that Senior Class members bring salads, Junior Class members bring salads, Sophomore Class members bring hot dishes, Freshman Class members bring desserts and Jr. High Class members bring desserts. Booster Club will provide meat, potatoes, bread and drinks. Our school will provide meal utensils and paper supplies. Enjoy dinner and awards as the Pirates 20122013 sports achievements are recognized at this Athletic Banquet. HYSHAM PUBLIC SCHOOL NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL ELECTION Notice is hereby given that the Annual School Election of the Hysham School Dist. No. 1, Treasure County, State of Montana, will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Hysham High School lobby. Electors will consider the following issues at the election: 1) Two Trustees to be elected for three year terms. 2) A mill levy proposition in the amount of $21,316.35 to support finance of the school’s General Fund. If it is later determined that any portion of the election is not required, the Board of Trustees authorizes the election administrator to cancel that portion of the election in accordance with 13-1-304 and 20-3-313, MCA. The polls will be open between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. A qualified registered elector who will be unable to go to the polls on the day of election may request an “Application for Absentee Voter’s Ballot” from the school district clerk’s office located at: Hysham Schools, P.O. Sally VanHemelryck District Clerk April 9, 2013 FFA STATE CONVENTION REPORT - HYSHAM HIGH SCHOOL The 83rd Annual State FFA Convention was attended by the following students last week from Hysham Schools: Kaitlyn Icopini, Austan Rogers, Todd Lackman, Janny Dennison, Shiloh Robison, Teishia Gamble, Brooke Eves, Hunter Hollowell, Piper Robison, Stevie Red Dog, and Matthew Sharp. These students had qualified at District events throughout the year to be able to attend the State FFA convention in Billings or they had applied to serve at the State FFA Convention. Extemporaneous Speaking is where a student draws three topics from a hat and has 30 minutes to prepare a speech on one of those topics. Todd Lackman represented our chapter and the Southeastern FFA District in the regional competition. Todd also represented our chapter and Southeastern FFA District in the Prepared Public Speaking with a speech entitled “The Greatest Misconception.” He placed 3 rd with this speech. Competing in the Agronomy Contest were Kaitlyn Icopini, Todd Lackman, Piper Robison and Stevie Red Dog. They placed 16th out of 85 teams. Individually Todd -22, Piper- 60, Kaitlyn- 97 and Stevie -148 out 224 individuals. Competing in Farm Management were Kaitlyn Icopini, Todd Lackman, Austan Rogers, and Shiloh Robison. They placed 8th out of 85 teams total. Individual placings out of 192 were Todd- 14th, Kaitlyn -68, Austan- 78, Shiloh -111. Livestock judging participants were Todd Lackman, Austan Rogers, Piper Robison, and Hunter Hollowell placing 26 of 85 teams total. Placing individually within livestock were Todd- 39th, Austan- 61st, Piper -204, and Hunter- 228 of 274 competitors total. Teishia Gamble was a part of the Tech Corp. which helps put together the sessions. Shiloh was part of the Press Corp. that was responsible for interviewing and writing convention happenings throughout the convention to be published daily in the FFA Legend. The Farm Business Management team placed 8th out of 85 teams. Individually Todd Lackman placed 14th, Kaitlyn Icopini- 68th, Austan Rogers- 78th, and Shiloh Robison- 111 of 192. Sales and Service team place 11th in the state and individually Todd Lackman placed 28th, Janny 38th, Matthew Sharp -74th, and Brooke Eves -95th of 152 competitors. Janny Dennison submitted the Chapter Scrapbook, Kaitlyn Icopini submitted the Chapter Secretary’s book, and Todd Lackman the Chapter Treasurer’s book. Kaitlyn’s book received third in the state competition. The Ag Com team was recognized for their 2 nd place finish with a plaque as well. Individual sweepstakes where a student competes in four or more contests at State FFA was awarded as well. Todd Lackman placed 8th in the sweepstake; this is comparable to the All-Around title in rodeo. Austan Rogers was awarded a scholarship to Sheridan College for $1,300. He will be studying Ag Business there in the fall. Congratulations to everyone who participated and competed this year for FFA. Great Job! SCHOOL DISMISSED ON MONDAY, APR. 22ND AT 12:30 P.M. School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22nd and buses will run their regular routes then. Teachers will have a PIR day from 1-4 p.m. that day. TASK FORCE MEETING There will be a follow up Task Force Meeting on Monday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. in the HS Multi-purpose room. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
