The prerequisite requirements for the implementation of the didactic classes at the unit and
a way of final evaluation
Basic knowledge on the metabolism and toxicity of medicines. The knowledge is checked
during the first class concerning health hazards created by chemical substances.
Topics of the didactic classes at the unit
Lectures
- Principles of causal treatment of acute poisonings with chemical compounds.
- Specific and non-specific antidotes used in the treatment of poisonings.
- Toxicological interactions.
Seminars
Labs
- Kinds of health hazards created by chemical substances.
- Poisonings caused by plant and animal toxins – diagnostics and treatment.
- Health effects of exposure to metals. Diagnostics and treatment of metal poisonings.
- Health effects of exposure to organic solvents. Diagnostics and treatment of solvent
poisonings, including especially poisonings with alcohols.
- Toxicity of gases and cyanides. Diagnostics and treatment of poisonings with these
substances.
- Health hazards created by household agents and products used in construction.
- Toxicomanias (drug abuse, nicotinism, alcoholism) and doping.
- Chemical contaminants of food and their influence on the human health.

A form of classes’ crediting

Individual labs are credited based on active participation in them.

3. A way and a form of final evaluation the whole course at the unit
The subject ends with a credit.
The condition for receiving a final credit is passing all classes and 2 written tests as well
as attendance lectures.
