NETWORK MANAGER: BIOINFORMATICS DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES The Computational Biology (CBIO) Group (http://cbio.uct.ac.za) provides leadership in Bioinformatics at the University of Cape Town and forms part of a broader network of Bioinformatics Groups spanning tertiary institutions across South Africa. CBIO is located within the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IIDMM), which provides a highly collaborative research environment, focusing on infectious diseases and biomedical research relevant to the African continent. The CBIO group is leading an initiative with over thirty institutions around Africa to develop a Pan African Bioinformatics Network for the Human Heredity and Health (H3Africa) Initiative (http://www.h3africa.org/). The aim of the network is to build bioinformatics capacity in Africa and develop a bioinformatics support platform for H3Africa research projects. The group seeks a highly efficient Bioinformatics Network Manager to help coordinate the activities of the network. Requirements: A Master’s degree in Management, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline Bioinformatics or biomedical background or expertise Management skills Good interpersonal and communication skills Willingness to travel to the partner sites in Africa Bioinformatics training experience and awareness of current techniques and standards in Bioinformatics would be advantageous. Responsibilities include: Overall management of activities of the central node at UCT together with the PI Coordination of network activities and monitoring of progress at partner sites Production and dissemination of network documents and reports Active participation in training activities Management of bioinformatics help desk activities The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R291,599 and R343,018 depending on skills and experience. The position is for up to 5 years with an initial probation period.
