However, a small minority of mothers need a little more specialist support. The clinics are run by the Health Board Infant Feeding Team. The clinics offer, by appointment only, a one to one appointment with an Infant Feeding Advisor. You can be referred to the clinic by a health professional or by referring yourself. The clinics provide assistance for parents who are experiencing breastfeeding problems, for example; o sore nipples which are not healing despite assistance to improve positioning and attachment from your midwife or health visitor, o recurrent mastitis or breast abscess, continuing breast or nipple pain o slow weight gain, unsettled baby, difficult attachment or breast refusal, o tongue tie (can only be cut at the West clinic) It does not matter which hospital your baby was born at; o Choose the clinic at the venue or on the day which are most convenient. o The clinics all have a voicemail as the offices are not staffed at all times. The advisors will be working with mothers. Leave your name and telephone number and the advisor will call you back with an appointment time. o If the clinic of your choice is full the advisor will recommend an alternative.
