Call for Proposals – Instructions and Guidelines
The Orange County Mediation Conference Planning Collaborative Partners are
soliciting proposals for the 2016 Conference scheduled for March 18th in Orange
County. Proposals are due by January 31, 2016.
We anticipate the conference will attract approximately 200 dispute resolution
practitioners from all over California and beyond. The Orange County Mediation
Conference Planning Collaborative Partners are:

Main Conference Subject Area Tracks:
Subject area tracks will be used to provide a level of organization to the conference
offerings. The subject area tracks under consideration for this conference are listed
below. If you have a program that does not fall within one of these areas, please
do not hesitate to submit it for review.
Topic 1: The Family Practitioner– divorce, premarital, elder issues, youth & family
Topic 2: The Community Practitioner – landlord-tenant, neighbor, HOA, peer, school
Topic 3: The Civil Mediation Practitioner – small claims, limited civil, unlimited civil,
unlawful detainer, civil harassment
Topic 4: The Restorative Justice Practitioner – victim-offender, criminal restraining
orders, restitution, talking circles, spiritual
Topic 5: The Business Practitioner – construction, employer-employee, labor
contracts, malpractice, personal injury / insurance, real estate
Topic 6: The Face of the Practitioner – ethics, dispute resolution styles, practice
building
Proposal Requirements and Other Guidelines*
 All proposals must be submitted electronically in accordance with the filing
instructions to administrator@ocmediationconference.org.
 High priority will be given to proposals that are interactive and will provide
adequate time for audience participation/questions.
 High priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate diversity of organization
and viewpoint.
 Each proposal submitted must contain the current address, phone, fax and email for all agreed presenters.
 All proposals and required supplemental materials must be submitted
electronically according to the instructions.
 A presenter may submit a maximum of two proposals.
*Please note that the Orange County Mediation Conference Planning Collaborative
has the discretion to deviate from these requirements to ensure overall conference
quality.
Conference Materials
Written materials are required for distribution to conference attendees. The material
can be a group effort or the work of one panelist or presenter. All material must be
submitted electronically and will be uploaded to the conference website for attendee
access. Submission of this proposal implies the presenters’ acknowledgement
that it is the responsibility of the presenters to obtain the author’s permission
for reproduction of all submitted material. All materials to be submitted by
March 1, 2016. Materials received after this date are not guaranteed to appear
on the conference website.
Acknowledgement of Proposal Submission
Shortly after receipt, the Orange County Mediation Conference Planning Collaborative
will send an electronic confirmation that the proposal has been received.
Proposal Review Process

Each proposal will be assessed by the OCMC planning collaborative.

Acceptance of proposals will be made by February 5, 2016.
Proposal Status and Acceptance
We will notify the presenter by email of the proposal’s status as to whether it was
accepted or declined. If your proposal is accepted, all proposed presenters will be
required to complete a Letter of Agreement.
Presenter Conference Registration
All accepted presenters will be offered free attendance to the conference. The Orange
County Mediation Conference planning collaborative cannot offer reimbursement for
travel or other related expenses.
The Orange County Mediation Conference planning collaborative and attendees
recognize the hard work that goes into preparing a first rate presentation. We
appreciate your interest in participating in the 2016 conference. If you have any

Program Title:
Program Description: Our selection criteria are based upon identifying programs that are
informative, insightful and inspirational. If your proposal is accepted this description will be included
in the conference program (limit 200 words). Please remember that most participants enjoy better
and learn more with interactive programs.
Requirements: Proposals will not be considered unless they are transmitted electronically in PDF or
Word format to administrator@ocmediationconference.org and contain the following information:
(1) Completed Proposal Submission; (2) Short Bio limited to 150 words; (3) Outline of Presentation
Target Audience and Format(s): Please indicate the target audience for your session, specifying
whether it is primarily basic, intermediate or advanced, as well as the various format or formats that
will be utilized, including but not limited to interactive seminar or workshop, panel presentation,
lecture format with question and answers and/or role-playing.
Time Constraints: Presenters may be encouraged to present in the morning for a 75 minute
session and once in the afternoon for a 75 minute session. Please note here if the presenter
is ONLY available for one, either the a.m. or the p.m. session.

THE OCMC Planning Collaborative WILL AIM TO HONOR PRESENTERS’ PREFERENCES.
Possible Subjects: As mentioned in the Call for Proposals, subject matters will be used to provide a
level of organization to the conference offerings. Indicate the track in which your program best fits.
Please keep in mind that your proposal will be forwarded to the Conference Committee. Failure to
select a track may result in an incorrect assignment or rejection of the proposal.

Full contact information must be provided for presenters or the Proposal cannot be
considered. It is very important that you include the FAX number and email address of each
panelist in your proposal. These will be the methods used to communicate with the panelists.
We also request that you electronically forward each of the three items described in the
Requirements paragraph on page one of this Proposal Submission Form to your panelists.

administrator@ocmediationconference.org and use the reference line: “2016 OC Mediation
Conference Proposal”.
