Conference
Conference on the Paleoclimates of the Cretaceous in Asia will be held at the
Paleontological Center of Mongolian Academy of Sciences in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in
August 15-16th, 2008.

Preparation and Submission of Abstract
The Organizing Committee calls for English abstracts up to 3 pages (A 4 size), including
figures and tables, if any. Each abstract must include: 1) Title, 2) Name(s) of author(s),
3) Affiliation(s) of author(s) including email address(es) of the author(s), 4) Text, 5)
Reference(s) cited. Author(s) should send the file of extended abstract (MS Word file
preferable) to Dr. Khand and Dr. Ichinnorov by May 31, 2008.
Poster presentation
Participants who wish to make poster presentations must prepare their posters.
Area is 110 x 90 sm.
Registration fee:
US$ 250
Symposium only (August 15-16,2008) (includes admission to
the oral and poster presentation sessions and abstract volume,
welcome and farewell dinner)
US$ 300
Post symposium Field Excursion (includes field guide book,
Flights to and from the area of field excursion, accommodation, food and
transportation during the excursion).
Accommodation and Rates:
Reservation: in the “Zaluuchuud Hotel”(Ulaanbaatar city) through the Organizing
Committee of the symposium. Single room: $35, Twin room: $60, Deluxe room: $90 per
night.
Schedule:
August 14, 2008: Arrival of participants
August 15-16, 2008: Scientific session and business meeting
August 17- 20, 2008: Post-symposium field excursion
August 21, 2008 : Departure of participants.
Travel Information:
Ulaanbaatar is located approximately 26 km north-east from the Chingis Khaan Airport.
Participants should be provided the Organizing Committee with their flight details
arrangement will be made for pick them up at the airport.
Main objectives of the field excursions:
1. Examination of non-marine red beds at Bayan Zag (Flaming Cliffs) locality
(Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Vertebrate Paleontology)
2. Examination of Upper Cretaceous and modern Sandy Dunes at locality Tugrigin
Shire (Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, Vertebrate Paleontology).
3. Examination of Lower and Upper Cretaceous outcrops at Avdrant and Ereelj
localities (Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Dinosaur foot prints, also fossilized
Insects and Flora).
Excursion Schedule:
1.In August 17 – flight from Ulaanbaatar city to Dalanzadgad, centre of South
Gobian region, to the area of excursion. Drive from Dalanzadgad to Bayan Dzag
(120 km), Upper Cretaceous famous Dinosaur locality in Mongolia. Arrival to
camping site and lunch. The traditional Mongolian dinner and bonfire in the
evening.
2.In August 18 - one day trip to Tugrigiin Shiree (40 km), where were found
“The Fighting Dinosaurs” and “Flock of Baby Protoceratops”. Lunch at Tugrigiin
Shire, dinner at the Bayan Zag where amateurs can take part in camel ride and
sunset watching.
3.In August 19 – one day trip to Avdrant (70km).Traditional Mongolian
Lunch. Farewell party at Bayan Zag.
4.In August 20 - drive to Dalanzadgad and flight to Ulaanbaatar city
Field travel information:
During field excursion accommodation is in the ”Ger Camp” at Bayan Zag locality for
three days. Transportation in the field is by Russian 4WD vans and jeeps. Road is
mainly gravel, as always bumpy and dusty.
You are advised to bring your field boots, warm sweaters, caps and necessary geological
field instruments. Typical temperatures at local area are about 25-30 C ( by day), and
15-20 C (at night).
