Teaching Plan on Leisure Activities
To enrich students’ knowledge about names of outdoor and indoor activities;
To equip students with the skill to derive verbs from the nouns (outdoor and indoor activities);

To encourage students to learn about leisure activities through reading a story.
Materials:
- Task 1: outdoor and indoor activities pictures cards, letter cards (Appendix (theme 4 task 1))
- Task 2: pictures cards(from task 1), letter cards(from task 1), worksheet 1
- Task 3: worksheet 2, online story (The lucky envelope)

Tasks:
Task 1 – How do you spell…?
Target items: names of outdoor and indoor activities
Materials: outdoor and indoor activities pictures cards, letter cards (Appendix (theme 4 task 1))
Steps:
Level 1 (for less able students):
1. Divide students groups of 4 (2 teams) and give out a set of picture cards and letter cards.
2. Students put the cards on the desk with the white side facing themselves.

One student randomly turns over 1 card, 2 teams spell the word by rearranging the letters. The team
first spells out the word can take the picture card.
The team who gets more picture cards will be the winner.
Level 2 (for more able students):
1. Divide students in groups of 4 (2 teams, team A and team B) and give out a set of picture cards and
letter cards.
2. Students put the cards on the desk with the white side facing themselves
3. Team A draws a card and speaks out the name of the clothes or accessories in the picture, team B spells

the word by rearranging the letters. If the team spells the word correctly, the team can take the picture
card.
The team who fails to speak out the name of the clothes or spell the word, the other team can take the
picture card.
The team who gets more picture cards will be the winner.

Task 2 – Nouns and verbs of the activities
Target items: the skill to derive verbs from nouns (outdoor and indoor activities)
Materials: pictures cards (from task 1), letter cards (from task 1), worksheet 1
Steps:
1. Divide students into two groups (group A and group B) and give out a set of letter cards.
2. Teacher shows one picture to students. Students from group A form the name of the activities, while
students from group B form the verbs of the activities.
3. Teacher asks students to stick the verb and noun pair on the wall (e.g. row, rowing).
4. Teacher consolidates the relationship between nouns and verbs of the activities.
5. Students work together to finish the worksheet.
Task 3 – Reading (The lucky envelope)
Target items: vocabulary related to outdoor activities
Materials: worksheet 2, online story (The Lucky envelope)

Steps:
1. Teacher asks students what they would like to do when they have won a holiday.
2. Teacher reads the story to the students.
3. Teacher asks students what the characters in the story like to do during the holiday.
4. Students finish the worksheet base on the information in the story.
Task 4 – Reading (The twins week)
