Matters Arising from Last Meeting DC requested a copy of the Kirkby & Sutton CLG Terms of Reference. MM agreed to email a copy to DC 3. Presentation Francine O’Sullivan – Vision Apprenticeship Scheme FO Informed members of the apprenticeship scheme which is subsidiary company of Vision West Notts College. The apprenticeship job vacancies are listed on their website www.visionapprentices.co.uk and on www. facebook.com/visionapprentices The scheme targets unemployed people age 16-24 but is not exclusive to that age group. Francine has a community outreach role and is able to deliver one to one IAG sessions to Surestart Groups. MM JG asked if the Surestart could include the project as a partner organisation within their application for IAG matrix accreditation and OS stated this would be possible. DD stated they are looking for an apprenticeship administrator and will be contacting OS to pursue further. 4. Community First Funding for Sutton Wards MM shared information on funding available for non statutory community groups in Sutton North, East & Central. MM stated the grant panel members were undertaking community consultation to establish what the community would like to see the funding spent on. MM asked members if they could hand out some of the questionnaires to their target user groups that live within the wards. DF agreed to advertise the funding via the Sutton SureStart Children’s Centre facebook. MM to send link to DF 5. ACLS Ashfield District Stats Update MM gave an overview of some ACLS course stats from Sept 2012 – last updated Sun 3 Feb 344 courses – average class size 8.67 2080 learners 2982 enrolments 2111 female learners & 871 male learners – similar success rates in 86.73% female and 87.27% male. MM stated the top two areas of learning were 87 courses in Preparation for Life & Work which includes LLDD, basic literacy and numeracy, job seeking and assertiveness. 74 courses in Arts, Media & Publishing which includes arts & crafts, intro to radio, jewellery making and drama. The bottom two areas of learning were 1 course in Business, Administration & Law, which includes payroll and customer care. 1 course in Education & Training, which includes teaching assistant course. MM informed members that a list of ACLS funded courses across Nottinghamshire could be viewed on the ACLS website http://www.nottsaclsmoodle.net/course/view.php?id=58 6. Round Table – Information Sharing DF stated a new course aimed anyone who is interested in working with children and young people will be started w/c Mon 11th March. Crèche will be made available. DF shared details of the Ashfield Children’s Centre facebook page http://www.facebook.com/surestartashfielddistrict MM DE circulated leaflets on ACLS funded More Bright Ideas course that will take place a New Wood Children’s Centre and a Volunteer Walk Leader Course that will take place on 22nd March at Summerhouse Children’s Centre. JG stated that there are 38 volunteers supporting Children’s Centre in the district and there are plans to run a volunteer course in March 2013. DC asked if the other volunteers could go onto the course. JG stated that they would be considered but would need to establish if the course was relevant as the volunteer course covers aspects of Every Child Matters. JW circulated information of library activities which included Book Doctor session on 7th March, Free half term family fun activities across Nottinghamshire libraries & Creative Chinese New Year Craft activity at Kirkby library on Tues 19th Feb. JB shared information on Aspergers Syndrome Course The Hidden Disability that will take place at Sutton Centre. The course will give an overview and provide a stepping stone to a more in-depth understanding of fundamentals such as triads of impairments and analysing and dealing with behavioural problems. For more information Tel 01623 441310 or 442173. DC stated that the Ashfield Development Workers Group are organising a volunteer event for Make a Difference Day. She invited anyone who wishes to take part to attend the planning meeting on Tues 26th Feb at 12.15 at Ashfield Voluntary Action. DD/DB gave a brief about the role of Jigsaw Support Scheme that provides support to vulnerable adults over the age of 18 to remain independent in their own home. They offer a befriending service and have over 60 volunteers that visit over 80 clients. They provide in house training to volunteers and a quarter of the volunteers have gone on to find employment. They also have an online resource directory that lists over 100 organisations in Mansfield & Ashfield. They also have a commercial personal care service available to those that require care within their homes. 7.
