Biomes Research

Collect a ‘Biomes’ sheet.

Go to the following website:
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/glossary/gloss5/biome/
Skim through the links for each of the biome types and decide which biome
type you would like to research in depth.
On the Biomes sheet, circle the biome type that you have chosen.

You will now need to select a category within your chosen biome. For
example if you have chosen the Forest biome, you then choose to study
either tropical, temporal or boreal forest. You only need to do one.
On the Biomes sheet, write in the name of the category that you have chosen.

Find out where your chosen biome is found and shade in the locations on the
map.

Find out the average temperature and rainfall and complete the ‘Climate’ box.

Research at least 2 animals and 2 plants that are found in your chosen biome.
Find out how they are specifically adapted to the biome and what their niches
are. (If you can’t remember what the terms adaptation and niche mean check
your notes and/or look them up in the glossary on the Biology web pages.).
You will find more information on plants and animals at the following website:
http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/world_biomes.htm
Complete the’ Life Forms’ section on the sheet.

Find out as much information about the communities that are found in your
biome and make a food web. Do any rough work on scrap paper and then put
your finished diagram in the ‘Food Web’ section. (If you can’t remember what
the terms community and food web mean check your notes and/or look them
up in the glossary on the Biology web pages).

Give a general description of your chosen biome. This should be in your own
words, not just copied from the website. Include any interesting facts not
already covered that you have found out.
