DISSECTION: EYE AND ORBIT
QOD: A 25 yo woman received a strike to the right side of her face as she pushed her son
on the swingset. Soon thereafter she reports diplopia on upward gaze and hypesthesia of
the skin overlying the right maxilla. The doctor notes a right enophthalmos but normal
pupillary light reflexes.
Clinical Themes:
 Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment
 Tentorial/uncal herniation
 Graves’ ophthalmopathy (“thyroid eye disease”)
 Blowout fracture of the orbit
