ST MARY’S CHURCH, HAWKSWORTH WOOD CHILDREN’S PASTOR 37 HOURS £17161 – £19126 St Mary’s Church is a small worshipping community based on the Hawksworth Wood Estate in Leeds. We want to show Christ’s love to the people who live here and especially to the children and their families. One of the recommendations in our recent feasibility study ( available on request) is to appoint a Children’s Pastor. Commitment to the spiritual well being and nurture of the children living on the Hawksworth Wood estate will be the over-riding concern of the Children’s Pastor. The Children’s Pastor will be expected to be a role model to the local children and community, demonstrating what it means to be a follower of Jesus in everyday life. In the first year it will be important for the Children’s Pastor to live and share the vision with the congregation; gain the confidence of the agencies working on the estate for the good of the children and families and to join in the life of the community wherever appropriate. The Children’s Pastor role will increase the churches and clergy capacity to work with local children; provide a visible Christian link between children and families and the church; work with existing initiatives and the local school to develop and innovate opportunities to bring faith to the heart of the community. The Children’s Pastor will work closely with the Children’s Champion who is supporting children making the transition from primary to secondary education. Do you have the skills and passion to join the adventure in realising this vision? You will need to be: generous in extending care and compassion towards children experienced in working creatively with children excited in the belief that knowing God’s love can transform a child’s life personable and able to work with professionals and with families experiencing stress seriously energetic, committed and resilient understanding of the needs of children living on a UPA estate The post is funded for 2 years by St Mary’s Church and grants from the diocese, Church and Community Fund and Leeds Christian Community Trust. We are currently seeking additional funds through grant applications to enable the work to continue into the future.
