WARNING
WEALD ON FLIGHT PATH
Plans for changes to the flight patterns around Gatwick Airport are being
considered by the air traffic control body NATS that could lead to a dramatic
increase in the number of audible aircraft flights over Weald Village.
The proposals are vague at the moment, but it is not impossible that if they are
adopted residents of Weald could be subjected to as much noise as those in
such villages as Hever and Penshurst. There would obviously be a subsequent
detrimental effect on our quality of life – just as Sevenoaks District Council is
planning to make part of the village a Conservation area.
The proposals are outlined here – www.londonairspaceconsultation.co.uk. We
urge you to reply to the questionnaire before the deadline of 21st January 2014.

find out more detail about what is planned and it would be helpful if he knew
people’s views beforehand. He understands our concerns and will report back
soon. We are also in contact with the Weald Parish Council and our District
Councillors and County Councillor to make our views known. If you do comment
please send a copy to one of us. Your can also contact us if you want to find out
more.
Overleaf we list a few ways in which you can register your views and some
information which you may find useful in doing so.

General Information



We live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
There are several Sites of Special Scientific Interest surrounding us
The Greensand ridge has flora, fauna and bird life all actively managed by
the Kent Wildlife Trust and other charities.
We do not know the possible effects of noise, fuel residues and other
contaminants from extensive low level flights on any of the above or indeed on
the wide range of dairy farms, other livestock and stables etc. which lie under
the proposed flight path. The noise level will certainly have a profound effect on
the tranquillity of life for all in the proposed flight path.
The Consultation document on page B18 states:
“Another factor that may determine the significance of a potential impact is
tranquillity……………The government guidance specifically mentions Areas of
Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Parks……....you may wish to consider
the potential effect on tranquillity when providing feedback.”
The consultation document also states that the proposals to make the best use
of Runway 26 and the intention to set up Respite Routes will bring considerably
more flights directly over Weald village at a height of under 4000ft with a noise
level of up to 70 decibels (a vacuum cleaner at 1 metre = 70 decibels). At peak
times there could be over 20 flights per hour.
We are asking that you consider:

Emailing our MP, Michael Fallon, registering your concerns on
michael.fallon.mp@parliament.uk

Responding to the NATS Consultation document by going on to their
website www.londonairspaceconsultation.co.uk and entering your post
code. Click on “leave your feedback here” and follow document through.

Signing the petition that is available in The Old Bakery and The Windmill
Public House that will be delivered to Michael Fallon to support our
concerns.
