It includes unique samples of Mycenaean pottery, representative samples of pottery from the Geometric, Archaic, Classic, Roman, and Medieval periods, terracotta figurines, an important collection of stone sculptures as well as seals, jewellery, coins and bronze objects. The Museum is housed in the mezzanine of the Phaneromeni building. It is designed according to the latest museological standards and has as its purpose to promote the ancient art of the island, which documents the Hellenic civilisation at the southernmost edge of Europe.
