The student will use Latin orally and listen to and write Latin as part of the language-learning process. The student will connect information about the Latin language and Roman culture with concepts studied in other subject areas. LESSON OBJECTIVE: The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of adjective endings by placing the endings in the correct order. The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of noun adjective agreement by picking the correct adjective ending to agree with the noun The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of what a noun and adjective agree in by telling what the gender, number, and case of agreeing nouns and adjectives. TASK ANALYSIS: Do the students know the Stage 14 vocabulary? (yes) Do the students know what a Latin adjective looks like? (yes) Do the students know how to find adjectives in Latin? (possibly) Do the students know how to find noun-adjective pairs in Latin? (possibly) KEY TERMS: Adjectives, vocabulary, “Quintus advenit,” nouns, agreement, case, number, gender, declensions SEQUENCE OF THE LESSON Anticipatory Set: Review adjectives-noun agreement by using Cambridge Software-Practicing the Language pt. A Students have sort cards-hold up green for yes, red for no when asked about the word on the screen As a class, translate the sentences Teacher Input: Print adjectives in different declensions on pieces of paper-bold the endings Have students hold pieces of paper and the rest of the class will tell them where to stand according to endings Switch students holding cards for 2nd/3rd declension and do the same thing Ask students what an adjective does in a sentence (checks for understanding) Ask how the students can tell it is an adjective in an English sentence? In a Latin sentence? (checks for understanding) Ask the students what the exception with placement of Latin adjectives is and where the adjective goes instead? Accusative case? Ablative case? Dative case? o How can you tell it is nominative? Accusative? Ablative? Dative?
