Band Bio Kate and Brisbane piano player Dave Spicer are previewing their album Moments Suite in October this year with a view to launch it with a National Tour in 2009. They are both extremely experienced musicians in their own right and together have worked extensively around Brisbane and the East Coast. The band they have put together for their album and subsequent performances of their soulful original tunes is made up of some of the country’s finest musicians. Kate and Dave have drawn musical inspiration from Andrew Shaw (bass), Rich Seymour (drums) and Gabe Vatavu (saxes) to put together an album that will move and inspire you. Kate Wighton’s Biography Kate Wighton is the recipient of the prestigious Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship for 2007. This nationally acclaimed scholarship is awarded to the best emerging Australian jazz vocalist by Generations in Jazz and James Morrison. Kate is a gifted musician who performs her own arrangements of the great Jazz standards with maturity and flair. After beginning her musical career playing flute and keyboard with the Queensland University Regiment band, Kate went on to sing at the Defence Force Open days at the Suncorp Piazza in 2003 and 2004. She has also performed at the highly celebrated Army in Concert at QPAC, Brisbane. In 2005 Kate began singing with the New Groove Jazz Ensemble at venues such as Parliament House and the Brisbane Jazz Club. Since beginning her Bachelor of Music program at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2006, Kate has sung with the Conservatorium Big Band under the direction of John Hoffman. In addition to her Big Band performance she has appeared in recognized Brisbane Jazz venues such as The Zoo and the Brisbane Jazz Club and at private and corporate functions in jazz duo and trio formats. She is also currently performing around Brisbane with guitarist Toby Wren. Kate’s influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Gretchen Parlato, Theo Bleckmann, Wayne Shorter and John Hollenbeck. She has a passion for music and her ability to bring joy to the songs she sings makes her a favourite with audiences of all ages. Performing alongside jazz greats such as James Morrison, John Morrison, James Muller and Phil Stack, Kate looks forward to a prosperous career.
