The Gingin community regards highly the value and significance of education. Gingin District High School is located within the
town, and as a District High School caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Gingin District High School services a
large geographical area with a catchment area that includes the localities of Lancelin, Guilderton, Muchea, Regan's Ford and
parts of the Shire of Chittering.
The school's vision is: “to lead in the provision of education within the community through provision of a relevant curriculum
that embraces a balance between academic achievement and citizenship. The school endeavours to create an uplifting positive
environment where all students, staff and community members feel a sense of belonging. The school works collaboratively to
provide opportunities for all to reach their full potential celebrates achievements with pride.”
The school provides a comprehensive curriculum for all year levels. Literacy and numeracy are the major aspects of the
curriculum in Early Childhood and Primary classrooms, and secondary programs focus largely on broadening the development of
skills across the curriculum including in specialised learning areas. The school’s Literacy Plan and Numeracy Plan have led to
high levels of achievement over the past three years, with Gingin District High School performing as well as or better than other
schools across the state. Secondary students who have been at the school until Year 10 have achieved outstanding results in Year
11 and 12, with some achieving subject awards and school awards, and most going on to a successful university career or a
quality trade traineeship.
There are currently 400 students enrolled at the school, including 130 secondary students.
The school has an active Parents and Citizens' Association which works constantly with the school to improve our programs and
environment. The School Council is the decision making body for the school, and has staff, parent and community
representatives, including a representative from the Shire of Gingin.
The teaching staff are dedicated in their work and professional in their approach. The administration team includes the Principal,
the Associate Principal, Deputy Principal Senior Schooling, Deputy Principal Middle Schooling and Deputy Principal Early
Childhood, as well as our Registrar.
The thirteen-member Student Council plays an important role in the management of student issues for the school. Through a
partnership with the Shire of Gingin the student council meets in the Shire Chambers under the guidance of the Chief Executive
Officer.
The school has established links with the Gingin Gravity Discovery Centre, assisting with the development of this project and
participating in a number of shared educational programs.
Secondary students have an opportunity to participate in the District High School Country Week program in term 3 of each year.
Other educational excursions are organised by individual classes throughout the year.
A School Band program is available at the school through the School of Instrumental Music. Students from Years 5 and above
are eligible to join the band as well as receive individual instrumental tuition.
The School Information Handbook is available from the school’s website:

Lancelin Primary School
53 Gingin Road
Lancelin WA 6044
Telephone: 08 9655 1077
The Lancelin Primary School is situated on the coast 120 kilometres
north of Perth. The school caters for children from the town of Lancelin and the surrounding communities of Seaview Park, Ledge
Point,
Ocean
Farms,
Seabird
and
Redfield
Park.
The school opened in 1960. While the original school now houses the pre-primary, additions to the school have included a fourclassroom teaching block and a purpose built library resource centre which opened in 2002. Other features include a covered
assembly area and well maintained ovals and gardens. The school caters for about 130 students from Kindergarten to Year 7.
The Lancelin community services the local rock-lobster fishing industry and tourism. Other
industries include mining and various forms of agriculture. With the ocean on one side and the
dunes the other, the area caters for many recreational activities including surfing, wind-surfing,
fishing and off-road vehicles.
Lancelin Primary School has in place programs to support both literacy and numeracy
development. A key feature is the occupational health therapy and speech therapy access that is
available to students through the school. Current priorities include pastoral care, reading and
numeracy. The 'Getting It Right' numeracy strategy is supporting our numeracy priority.
Indonesian is taught by video conferencing through the Schools of Isolated and Distance
Education (SIDE). Classrooms all have at least four fully networked computers to allow ICT to
be integrated into classroom activities. An Environmental Plan has been implemented and
students are involved in many different environmental projects, including the revegetation of
Lancelin Island and the Lancelin townsite foreshore.
Lancelin Primary School is actively involved in community events. Examples of this in 2006
have included the annual SeaWeek celebration, local Landcare initiatives and Marine Debris
surveys. Staff welcome parent and community involvement in the learning programs offered at
the school. An active Parents' & Citizens' Association and School Council ensure school decision
making is enhanced through consultation with parents, community and staff. The school supports
and co-ordinates the Active After School Communities Project which involves coaching and
active participation in a variety of sports.
The Lancelin school community is proud of its achievements and its ability to meet the
educational, social and emotional needs of all students.

Volunteer Organisations
If your organisation is not listed below and you wish to be included please contact the Shire's Community Development Officer,
Cher Groves, on 9575 2211 extension 138.
St John Ambulance
St John Ambulance Volunteers are one of our most precious community resources. They help ensure that the country
communities of WA are well supported in times of medical emergency. Here in the Gingin Shire, ambulances are housed at
Lancelin, Ocean Farm, Woodridge and Gingin.
Why volunteer
As one of 3,000 country St John Ambulance volunteers you not only get the satisfaction of knowing you are helping others but
you also gain important life saving skills to help your family and friends in times of emergencies. No matter what your
motivation, being a St John Ambulance volunteer is a great way to meet new friends, work as a team, have fun and give back to
your community. There are many ways to be involved and help your community through St John Ambulance. Driving
ambulances, providing first aid, being part of the committee are just a few roles available. Volunteers are supported every step of
the way through training and mentoring.
First Aid Courses
Statistics show that while we think about learning first aid only a small percentage of the population ever take the time to actually
learn. St John Ambulance volunteers regularly run Senior First Aid courses throughout the shire. Why not take the challenge,
increase your confidence and knowledge and learn some life changing skills.
Benefit Fund
Do you realise an ambulance trip to Joondalup or Swan District Hospital could cost you $1,200 depending on distance. For
around $100.00 a year your family could be fully covered. Accidents happen at any time of the day or night and with the Brand
Highway and Indian Ocean Drive running through our backyard, is it time to make sure your family has ambulance insurance
cover. While many people have private health cover, it does not always cover all ambulance call outs. Often non life threatening
accidents are not covered such as broken ankles and dislocated knees. A gift of membership to the benefit fund could save a
young family a huge financial burden and much heartache.
