Content Objectives: Students will be able to: Identify and name classroom objects (backpack, chair, crayons, scissors, markers, paper, pencil, glue, book, table) Use visual cues to independently read My New Backpack Language Objectives: Students will be able to: Orally name and identify classroom objects Orally express possession using sentence prompts, “This is my ” and “These are my” Orally express and identify the location of classroom objects using, “in, on, under” Echo read/sing “This is my paper” and “In/On/Under” song Key Vocabulary: backpack, crayons, scissors, markers, paper, pencil, eraser, glue, book, table, in, on, under, this, these Materials: table, backpack, chair, crayons, scissors, markers, paper, pencil, eraser, glue, book, “Listening Song,” “This is my paper” song, “In/On/Under” chant, classroom objects worksheet and sort Procedure: Motivation 1. Teacher and students will greet each other 2. Students will chant “Listening Song” to get their bodies ready to listen 3. Student helper will lead the class in reading morning message and will write missing sight word in message. Students will respond to the following question in the message: “What is your favorite place in our school?” 4. Teacher will take classroom objects out of book bag and introduce them to students. Teacher will name objects and describe their function. Students will repeat names after teacher. 6. Teacher will lead students in echo reading of following song: This is my paper. These are my scissors. This is my pencil. These are my markers. Paper, scissors, pencil, markers Oh, these are the tools of school! This is my book. These are my crayons. This is my eraser. This is my glue. Book, crayons, eraser, glue. Oh, these are the tools of school! Teacher will present realia as singing song. 7. Teacher will lead students in playing “What is missing?” Students will close their eyes while teacher will put one of the classroom objects back in the book bag. 8. Students will open their eyes. Teacher will ask, “What is missing?” Students will name missing object, using sentence prompt, “The (object) is in the backpack.” 9. As students continue to play the game, teacher will explain that objects can also be hidden on or under the table. Teacher will demonstrate. 10. Teacher will lead students in singing chant: The pencil is in, in the backpack The pencil is on, on the table The pencil is under, under the table Where could the pencil be? 11. Students will continue playing “What is missing?” Students will take turns hiding school objects in the backpack or on/under the table. Students will express the location of the missing objects using sentence prompt, “The (object) is in the backpack or on/under the table.” Teacher will ask students of high English levels, “What can you use this (object) for?” 12. Teacher will introduce My New Backpack. Students will preview book and use visual cues to discuss objects in backpack. Students will use sentence prompts, “This is the girl’s (object) or These are the girls (object)” when discussing objects in backpack. 13. Students will echo read My New Backpack and then read it independently. 14. After reading, teacher will ask “What was in the girl’s backpack? Do you put any of those things in your backpack too?” Assessment 15. Students will complete yes/no worksheet in which they will identify the location of classroom objects in picture. Students will read statement on worksheet and stand up when a sentence is true and sit down when it is false. Extension 16.
