COURSES
THE DEGREE FOUNDATION PROGRAMME (DFP)
The University Degree Foundation Programme is designed for students who have completed ‘O’
Levels and are looking forward to gaining entry into an English University. The Degree Foundation
Programme is suitable for students who wish to follow a fast track programme which broadens their
knowledge and provides them with a sound educational base for degree level study.
This programme prepares international students for undergraduate degree programmes. i.e. It
provides a bridge between school study in your home country and undergraduate study at a foreign
university. All the courses are taught by specialist staff at Global, so you will be part of University life
from your first day.
On successful completion of the programme you can progress into a nine-term degree programme
in the school of Business, Sciences or Humanities. This means that for many students your
foundation and degree programmes can be completed in three calendar years.
The International Degree Foundation Programme trains you to become an independent learner who
is prepared for University study. You will experience all the teaching and learning methods used in
foreign universities, such as lectures, seminars and tutorials. For example, you will develop your
listening and note-taking skills and learn how to take part in Seminars. You also develop your own
ideas through group discussions and class presentations. You will gain practice and training in the
different kinds of assessment that are common in higher education, for example essays, reports,
individual and group presentations, learning journals, project work and examinations. Student
progress is supported and monitored through a series of formative exercises coupled with detailed
feedback.

MATURE STUDENTS
Why return to study?
Mature students come in different guises and with different aims. Some missed the opportunity to
study at a higher level when they were younger or simply did not have the interest earlier in their
lives. By contrast, there are mature students who have always had a desire to pursue a particular
course and have waited years for the opportunity. Apart from motives of self-development and
personal satisfaction, many students return to education to enhance their career prospects.
You can do it
11 | P a g e
Our experience shows that mature students are highly motivated and add a unique and individual
perspective to the learning process. They are usually very focused and hard-working because of their
sense of purpose. As they have taken a conscious decision to return to education, and have often
overcome obstacles to do so, they work hard to succeed. Organisational skills lateral and critical
thinking and information-recording ability can all contribute to academic success. Don’t
underestimate yourself.
