Museums and Technology Fund
Description
This fund helps collections-based arts and heritage organizations preserve and
present Ontario's diverse and rich heritage. It is supported by the government's $6.5
million commitment, announced in 2009, to help community museums, art galleries,
archives and associated heritage service organizations invest in innovative projects
and partnerships that help them improve public access to their collections through
digital technology.
Its objectives are to:
 Provide Ontarians with access to the diversity and richness the province's heritage
and its history.
 Maximize the role of collections-based arts and heritage organizations in
stimulating cultural tourism, community economic development and municipal
cultural planning; and
 Encourage innovative museum partnerships and models that support education,
life-long learning and new audience development.
See the list of previous Museums and Technology Fund recipients.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is transforming its support to the culture
sector. Three existing grant programs will be integrated into a single, streamlined
program to achieve savings and improve client services; it also allows the ministry to
create a more comprehensive program for the sector.
In 2013, the ministry will launch a new cultural grant program with expanded
program criteria which will be open to all cultural sectors.
To accomplish this, the Museums and Technology Fund will end March 31, 2013, at
which time the new program will launch.
These program changes are outlined in the 2012 Ontario Budget.
