Coach Ben believes in aggressive practices and patience. His emphasis on the fundamentals of the game along with
hard work and conditioning, has led to a strong, disciplined and successful hockey team. The "players don’t have to be
the best; they just have to try their best in order to be successful". Coach Ben believes that when the children step on
the ice, it should be a happy and memorable learning experience. He is a positive and effective role model.

I have primarily worked with young players as a coach.I believe the most important role of a coach at the mite level is
to develope skating skills.Skating is the foundation of every good player and thats my primary focus. All of my practice
time is spent on fundamentals. My goal is to have each player ready for the next level of youth hockey and develope a
love for the game.

Chris Brosius-Squirt B
Chris was the head coach of one of the Hollydell Havoc Mite B Limited Travel teams last season. His team had a very
successful season which concluded with a first place finish in a Mite B tournament hosted in Delaware. He is currently
coaching one of the Spring Limited Travel Squirt teams.
Chris has a true passion for the game of hockey. He has 15 years of playing experience in various men’s hockey
leagues. His coaching philosophy emphasizes skating hard, playing as a team, and having fun while learning the
game. In addition to a primary focus on developing solid skating skills, he also believes in teaching positioning with a
strong emphasis on defense from all positional players. Chris believes success is based on these fundamentals: hustle,
heart and smart “on-ice” hockey decisions.
Vince Capone-Peewee AA
Vince has been with the Hollydell Ice Arena as a Coach the past 3 seasons, coaching the ages of Pee-Wee and Bantam.
In addition to his duties as a Hurricane Coach he is an instructor for the Hollydell Learn to Play and Skate clinics. Prior
to his coaching career Vince played in the local area for the Hurricanes, Team Comcast, and the Philadelphia Little
Flyers. Vince has a few goals when he takes on a team, One: Have Fun, Two: Teach the kids new aspects of the game,
and Third: Team building through hard work. Vince is a recent Rowan University graduate with a degree in Finance
and currently resides in Deptford.
Jim Milliken-Peewee A
Jim Milliken, 39, is a life-long player and student of the game of hockey. He began his career at Rizzo Rink in South
Philadelphia and landed in the men’s leagues at Hollydell since 1997. He began coaching at the Mite level at Rizzo for
his two youngest boys in 2006. He joined the Hollydell Hurricanes coaching staff last year with the Squirts and has
been a welcome addition. His emphasis on the fundamentals of the game along with hard work and conditioning, has
led to a strong, disciplined and successful hockey team. His willingness to adjust his team’s system based on their
strengths and weaknesses has been the one of the main reasons for his success. He’s considered a player’s coach but
one who demands 100% from his players, 100% of the time. At the squirt level, he has challenged the boys to take their
game to the “next level” by introducing them to the various systems, strategies and styles of play that can be used to
their advantage on every shift.
His motto is: “Our goal is to out-muscle them and out-hustle them, but more importantly, out-smart them”.
Roger Wellens- Peewee B
Roger started paying at the age of 7. Played mite thru midget at the A and AA level for the Gladiators, Glaciers,
Wilmington Wheels and Haverford Hawks. 4 years Varsity hockey at Eustace and college hockey at St. Michael's in
VT. Roger was an asst. coach '96-'98 for the Hollydell Ducks midget in-house team. He ran practices for the Havoc
PeeWee team for the '09-'10 season. Winter Learn to Skate, PeeWee B Head Coach '11-'12 Season. We had a 31-15-4
record, went 12-6-2 in league play and missed playoffs by 2 points. We were 21-4-2 from Dec on with two of the
losses against A teams. The PeeWee B's won their last 2 tournaments of the season: Flight on Ice and the Liberty Cup.
I believe the most important aspect of hockey is skating. If you don't have a strong skating foundation the other skills
necessary to play at a high level will not develop. The first 25 min. of each full ice practice consists of skating drills
and conditioning. Last season we pulled away from teams by the end of the 2nd period because we were out skating
them. I emphasize a Will over Skill approach to the game. A less talented team that outworks their opponent has a
good chance at winning the game. It's my responsibility to develop the skill and if you combine hard work with skill
you will have a good team. Very aggressive puck pursuit is part of every game plan. Minimizing your opponents time
and space will lead to turnovers and scoring opportunities. I make sure the kids understand the importance of
respect. Every time you enter a rink and step on the ice you are representing the Hurricanes, your parents and most
importantly yourself. Respect the facilities, refs, coaches, teammates and opponents. The best way to do this is to
work hard every shift.

of the game and most importantly encourage the building of individual character through sportsmanship

John Donahue-Midget U18-AA

organization as a player. He went on to play high school hockey in Connecticut and led his team to a state
championship. He was an attraction for many NCAA teams in hockey and also lacrosse. He chose Nichols College for
a very simple reason; he was allowed to play both sports. He won many awards at Nichols including Outstanding
Athlete and MVP in both sports. He graduated with a BSBA and continues to devote his passion towards business and
sports.
For the past 15 years, John was the head coach of the Jaguars U18AA program. He is the only U188 AA coach that
has brought his team to playoffs every season. There are trophies and banners to prove it. John has graduated players
to every level of competence (NHL, AHL, NCAA, ACHA, Junior A and Collegiate prep). He is a mentor and also a
student of the game. John is very concerned about what happens to his players when they leave youth hockey and
maintains a close relationship with his alumni. In his words, “It’s a small window, enjoy it, get the best of it and be a
leader and win. Don’t look back and say should have or could have.” His players have formed a fraternity that
culminates in an annual alumni game that brings together an impressive group of fine and decent young men.
John lives in Medford, NJ with his wife (Linda) and daughter (Nicole). He has no children involved in ice hockey. He
is the Director of Freight Industry Solutions for Computer Sciences Corporation based out of Virginia.
