JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Main Grade Lecturer - Travel and Tourism Job reference: 833 Contract type: Temporary and Permanent posts available Hours per week: Full time and Part time posts available Term-time only: N/A T&Cs: MGL Scale: MGL1-8 Salary: £22,904 to £37,116 per annum *Maximum commencement salary is point 4 Location: South and City College Birmingham *Postholders can be required to work at any College Centre Responsible to: Assistant Director – Sports, Travel & Tourism Aims of Job/Job Purpose The role of a Main Grade Lecturer (MGL) at South and City College is to support the College’s aims, objectives and mission statement to provide high quality, education and training in response to local need. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities 1. Co-ordinate, administrate and further develop short course/additional qualifications in travel and tourism (ABTAC/ABTOC courses, NCFE Resort Representatives Certificate and NCFE on -Tour Managers Certificate). 2. Have a flexible and innovative approach to the management of the student learning programme. 3. Assist in the development of appropriate curriculum initiatives. 4. Monitor and review provision in the curriculum. 5. Undertake site visits as part of Modern Apprenticeship support if required. 6. Contribute to the enrichment programmes of the College. 7. Liaise with appropriate accreditation bodies. 8. Liaise with employers and managing agencies. 9. Carry out appropriate course administration. 10. Comply with the Quality Assurance procedures of the College. General A Main Grade Lecturer will contribute to the College and satisfy the Lifelong Learning UK 5 questions contained in the Common Inspection Framework (CIF), published by the Ofsted and ALI inspectorates. These are:a) How well do learners achieve? b) How effective are teaching, training and learning? c) How well do the programmes and activities meet the needs and interests of learners? d) How well are learners guided and supported? e) How effective are leadership and management in raising achievement and supporting all learners? It is the responsibility of all MGL’s; f) to contribute to the College achieving its strategic aims g) to understand and apply the College’s relevant policies, procedures and practices h) to meet the professional requirements by working to Lifelong Learning’s new professional standards and conform to agreed codes of professional practice and conduct Teaching Standards All MGL’s will work towards evidencing competence. To implement a strategy for the continuous quality improvement in educational standards including retention, achievement and success rates in teaching and supporting learning. These include professional knowledge and understanding, skills and attributes and the key areas of teaching are:1. Assessing learners’ needs 2. Planning and preparing teaching and learning programmes for groups and individuals 3. Developing and using a range of teaching and learning techniques 4. Managing the learning process 5. Providing learners with support 6. Assessing the outcomes of learners and learners’ achievements 7. Reflecting upon and evaluating one’s own performance and planning future practice 8. Meeting professional requirements Each MGL will engage in the College’s, self-assessment procedures against these criteria. Identified targets for development should be considered with the relevant line manager and assessed at an annual appraisal in which the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) process is undertaken.
