The Bridges to the Future is a federally funded program with the goal of increasing the number of
underrepresented minority students in the sciences at Community Colleges who will transfer to a 4-year
university into the biomedical sciences. Our program is a “bridge” from community college to the fouryear university.

Attend all Bridges to the Future workshops and enrichment activities offered by the Community College
Attend all Bridges to the Future weekly meetings, meet weekly with my assigned mentor, and complete an
Education Plan through the Bachelors degree.
Fully participate in the Bioethics, Colloquium in Biomedical Research and Introduction to Biological
Research at SDSU (Cost of course registration is covered by the Bridges Program).
Participate for a minimum of six weeks in the Summer Science Bridge during the summer of 2002.
Participate for a minimum of eight weeks in an internship placement in a research laboratory during the
Summer of 2003.
Provide the Bridges to the Future program with updates of academic training and career achievements
(address, telephone number and employment status to SDSU periodically to meet the “tracking”
requirements of the federal grant which funds the Bridges to the Future program.
Please attach a one-page essay stating why you want to participate in the Bridges to the Future
program, and how participation in the program will assist you in reaching your goals.
