September, 2015 FLAK True stories from the men who flew in World War II Michael Veitch has an obsession with flying. The Australian author and actor, who has starred in shows like The D-Generation, Fast Forward and Full Frontal, loves old war planes so much he’s written two books, Flak and Flight, about pilots and their stories from World War 2. Over the course of a year, Veitch interviewed more than fifty surviving pilots, bomb aimers and air gunners from World War 2, almost all of whom had never revealed their wartime stories to anyone, including – in some cases – their families. Michael Veitch now brings five of these stories to life as he stars in the one-man stage production, Flak. You’ll meet two Australians, a Welshman, an Englishman and a former German pilot. All stories are of survival but the harrowing tales will leave you inspired by the character’s courage and sheer. “Flak will appeal to anyone with an interest in history, flying or wartime tales. Even those who simply like a good story will be sure to enjoy seeing Michael Veitch in his element live onstage,” said Rob Stobbe, CEO of Country Arts SA principal corporate partner, SA Power Networks. Michael Veitch has received standing ovations around Australia for Flak, now it’s your opportunity to see this skilled character actor and storyteller in action. “Michael Veitch's "Flak" is a marvellous monodrama told with the skill of someone who combines the questing of a journalist, the rigour of a historian and the compassion of a very fine actor. There are few storytellers in Australia like Michael Veitch. He puts humanity and wry observation into the terrible arithmetic of air warfare. His personal mission to honour the memory and the memories of the last of a generation who bear a remarkable witness is a special kind of theatrical experience.” Dr Mark Williams, Adjunct Professor, School of Art, RMIT University FLAK PORT LINCOLN Nautilus Theatre Tuesday, 13 October at 7:30pm WHYALLA Middleback Arts Centre Wednesday, 14 October at 7:30pm PORT PIRIE Northern Festival Centre Thursday, 15 October at 7:30pm RENMARK Chaffey Theatre Saturday, 17 October at 7:30pm TICKETS available from www.countryarts.org.au.
