Attempting to access QTP tests in TestDirector in Expert View after 3 or 4 tests eventually gets a buffer overflow attempt blocked by McAfee VirusScan Message. One workstation was totally reimaged and it still got the same error. Support hasn't heard of anything yet. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Using the same PC, we have now identified 2 users that when they login to the PC experience the problem and 1 user that doesn't so the problem appears to be in the user login scripts. I am also getting the same kind of problem after upgarding the McAfee to version 8.0i. When I am trying to log into the Testdirector or log out, I am getting buffer overflow protection message. Temporarily I am disabling the antivirus before logging into the Testdirector. Does anybody know the permanant sollution for this issue? Instead of disabling the antivirus itself, I would recommend to disable just the bufferoverflow protection in the Mcafee. Right click on the Mcafee icon on the desktop, and click on Virus console. Then double click on Buffer overflow protection and uncheck the Enable Buffer overflow protection. You may have to restart the system to see the effect. That should solve the issue. Actually that is what I did, I disabled the Buffer Overflow protection from Virus console. But the properties of the antivirus are controlled from the server in the network. Eventhough I disabled the Buffer overflow protection on my server, it is enabling automatically after few minutes. So I am doing it manually every time when I am logging in. once I logged in I am ok. Our IS staff allowed us to disable the buffer overflow detection but as previously mentioned, they have it set up to automatically re-enable, in our case in 8 hours. You can further secure it by limiting it to the dll associated with the overflow. BUT all this ignores the fundamental problem that there seems to be an buffer overflow problem in TestDirector. SO please contact Mercury as they need to be aware that this problem is happening to more than one customer and efforts need to be made to fix the cause. It seems rather clear that the cause of this problem is in QC and needs to be fixed by Mercury/HP. The result is often QC data loss and lost productivity. We currently have service requests open asking Mercury/HP to address this issue. Due to the nature of our security requirements our IT admins are unwilling to assume the risk of allowing us to disable buffer overflow detection. The fact of the matter is many QC customers are reporting that something in QC's WEBCLI~1.DLL is being detected by McAfee “VirusScan” as a buffer overflow violation. Cautious network admins will not allow the disabling of software that works to protect their enterprise from buffer overflow activity. Will Mercury fix it? We ran into the same issue, and after much head-banging and frustration, our network admins allowed us to set exclusions on the .dll's that were causing the problems. So far that seems to have helped, but I would also like to hear that HP plans to address the issue (we had also submitted a Service Request for this, which has since been closed). I also filed a service request. Mercury told me to reference KB20022, and to try setting exclusions for the Mercury files. IT agreed to the exclusions solution. Mercury has closed our service request.
