Junior Ambassador
Guidelines
Sponsored by the DJJD Committee
Qualifications:
Boys and girls must be 6, 7 or 8 as of August 7th, 2015. The child must attend Northfield Schools or live in the
Northfield School District, or have parents that live, work or volunteer in the Northfield School District.
Sponsorship:
Each candidate will be sponsored by a local business. If you have someone who would be interested in sponsoring
your child, please let us know. If you do not have a sponsor the committee will provide one for you. The sponsorship
fee for Jr. Royalty candidates if $100.00. The candidate will make appearances wearing a banner/sash with the
sponsor’s name on it and will also provide radio spot ads given by the candidate prior to coronation.
Expectations of Candidates:








Each candidate will be given 10 tickets to the coronation to sell ahead of time. More tickets are available.
There will be a $50.00 savings bond given to the child who sells the most tickets. Ticket money must be
turned in prior to rehearsal. Date will be announced by event chair.
Each candidate will have DJJD Buttons to sell ahead of time & there will be a prize given. A representative
from Sertoma will hand out and money must be turned in at coronation rehearsal.
Each candidate will also be provided with pancake breakfast tickets to sell. Money to be turned in prior to
pancake breakfast.
Each candidate will have their picture taken to be published in the Northfield News and also used on the
plaque given to each sponsor. You will need to provide a white shirt and jeans, jean shorts or a jean skirt for
the picture. We will provide bandanas. Cowboy hats are optional.
Each candidate will tape an advertising message for their sponsor. Location and date will be determined.
All candidates will be asked to participate in some community service projects and public appearances
arranged by the committee prior to coronation. A schedule will be provided and you are asked to make as
many of these events as possible. Attendance will be tracked and may be used by judges in case of a tie.
All candidates will be asked to participate in the fundraising event(s) to help pay for expenses of the
coronation event. More information will follow.
Each candidate will need to perform a talent at Coronation. This can range from story telling, singing, and
dancing, to playing an instrument. This is to last no more than 3 minutes.
Dress Rehearsal:
Rehearsal will be at the Weitz Center for Creativity on Friday August 8. Parents are welcome to stay and watch but
will not be allowed back stage. If there are special instructions for your child’s talent, please write them down for us.
Coronation:




One on one session will be arranged with the judges date and time to be announced.
Coronation will be held at the Northfield Middle School on Friday, August the 16th in the evening. Please see
that your child has something to eat prior to coming to the theater.
Attire for Coronation is “Sunday Dress” – additional ‘costumes’ will be allowed for the talent portion. We ask
that no cowboy hats or crowns be incorporated into their attire.
Family members will not be allowed back stage the day of coronation. We will have committee volunteers
there to help the children.







Candidates will be judged on poise, projection, how well they carry on a conversation, behavior behind the
stage and over all impression.
Each candidate will be asked to introduce themselves, state their age, their sponsor and their parents.
Each candidate will perform some kind of talent – no longer than 3 minutes please.
Each candidate will have one-on-one time with the emcees.
Each candidate will receive a goody bag sponsored by area businesses.
When the crowning is finished we will ask all candidates to sit on the stage steps and take a group picture.
Once that is finished we will dismiss them to their parents. Those who are crowned are asked to remain on
stage for more pictures.
The newly crowned ambassadors will be asked to attend the Ambassador Coronation on Saturday, August
16th. Parents may accompany them if they choose. This is a ticket event. They will be asked to wear their
sponsor sash and not the sash or hat/crown as their reign doesn’t actually begin until September and they
will be introduced at Coronation. As always, they will be chaperoned by a committee member.

Craft Show, Soapbox Derby. We will also attend
the Rodeo at least one night.

Entertainment Center
If Your Child is NOT Crowned:
There will be a wagon for them to ride on in the Grand Parade on Sunday and should meet at the High School at
1:30PM. They are usually one of the first floats so they won’t miss much of the parade. They should wear the same
outfit they had their pictures taken in and their sponsor sashes. You will be responsible for picking your child up once
they have completed the parade route. We will let you know exactly what spot.
