The guest speaker will be Dr. Kenneth Carpenter. His lecture is entitled “Why We Need a New Museum” The UFOP business meeting will begin at 6:30pm. All CVAS members are welcome to attend this meeting. The Castle Valley Chapter (CVAS) business meeting will begin at 7:00pm. The lecture will begin shortly after that business meeting. The UniBio Press is a non-profit organization that distributes biologyoriented academic journals including The Palentological Research, and the Journal of Palentological Society of Japan. The “UniBio Press Award” is given each year for each journal to the authors who produce the most frequently accessed On Thursday January 19, the guest speaker was Grant Smith; he is the USDA/National Recourses Conservation Service Archaeologist and a new member of CVAS. He was also a guest speaker last fall His lecture “Newest Discoveries from the Promontory Caves” drew such interest that all of sixteen people who attended kept him long after the lecture to answer several questions about the exciting finds that were found in the caves. At the January 19, 2012 meeting Heidi Essex, a new member of CVAS volunteered to serve as the 2012 Vice-President. Heidi is a full-time student at USU Eastern majoring in secondary education and history with a minor in anthropology. She enjoys archaeology and all other aspects of anthropology. A motion was made to elect her the CVAS Vice-President, it was seconded and she was unanimously elected. CVAS members are thankful to Heidi Essex for stepping up and being involved in the mission to preserve the past for the future.
