Job Description Post: Front-of-House Staff (A number of part-time positions available on a casual contract basis) Reporting to: No.1 Royal Crescent Administrator Purpose of role: To sell entrance tickets to members of the public wishing to visit No.1 Royal Crescent and to provide information about visiting the house and the museum shop. No. 1 Royal Crescent is currently undergoing a major restoration project to reunite the house with its original servants’ wing. The new museum will have a total of 10 dressed rooms and spaces, double the amount in its previous incarnation. In previous years, No. 1 Royal Crescent received on average 50,000 visitors per year and we are expecting this to increase to at least 60,000 per year following re-opening in June 2013. The museum is open to the public seven days per week, closed Monday mornings. The purpose and scope of this role will be to act as the front-of-house staff for the museum, welcoming visitors to the museum and selling tickets to enter the main house. As the primary point of contact for the museum staff will encourage visitors to buy a ticket for the museum and explain the format of the visit. The front-of-house staff will also be responsible for explaining the alternative visitor route to any disabled visitor to the museum and providing the necessary audio-visual equipment. Key responsibilities Welcoming visitors Providing a warm welcome to visitors Selling tickets to enter the main house and explain the set-up of the two buildings Entering tickets with gift-aid Encourage visitors to enter the ‘Introduction Room’ before visiting the main house, or if they are unsure about buying a ticket. Directing visitors through to the museum shop if required Informing visitors of any special events or workshops taking place within the museum Maintaining the front desk area Working with the museum administrator to ensure that at the beginning of the day the desk is fully stocked with necessary equipment, including till roll, change, museum leaflets, children’s’ trails etc. Desk Till Counting in the desk float at the beginning of each day and recording it on the takings sheet Cashing up at the end of the day Visitor Care In the event of a fire, acting as the primary fire marshal for the entrance area of the museum (full training will be provided) Notifying the museum administrator of any issues with visitors to the museum within the entrance area. Directing disabled visitors in entering the museum via the alternative entrance, and providing the tablets containing the virtual tour for inaccessible areas. In addition, the post holders may be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities compatible with the overall scope of the post. Person Specification Knowledge: Interest and passion for history, in particular Georgian Bath Customer care training and/or experience Skills: Good Communicator Effective team member Self-motivated Common sense approach Good people skills and a tactful, professional approach Literate Experience: Some experience of working in a customer facing role Experience of till work desirable but not essential as full training will be given Working hours: We have a number of part time positions available on a casual contract basis to join our team of desk staff. Half-day or full-day shifts are available based on the following shift times: Monday – 11.30 am – 2.30 pm and 2.30 pm – 5.30 pm Tuesday – Sunday (and bank holidays) - 10.00 am – 1.45 pm and 1.45 pm – 5.30 pm Basic pay – £6.19/ hour + holiday allowance
