2015 Call for Programs: GPA Annual Meeting and Continuing Education Workshops 2015 Annual Meeting: The Georgia Psychological Association (GPA) invites psychologists to submit program proposals for three-hour continuing education workshops for the 2015 Annual Meeting to be held April 24-26, 2015 at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest, Atlanta, GA. Psychologists have high levels of expertise in a broad range of specialties, and the Annual Meeting is an opportunity to share your knowledge with colleagues. 2015 Annual Meeting Theme: “Ripped from the Headlines! Psychology in the 21st Century” GPA’s Annual Meeting Committee strives to offer a variety of workshops, and equal consideration is given to all submissions. The committee is especially seeking advanced level programming. Programs for the 2015 Annual Meeting are expected to align with the theme, the “Ripped from the Headlines! Psychology in the 21st Century.” Programs related to this theme may include the following areas: Diverse Treatment Modalities and Settings, Telepsychology, Parenting, Psychology across the Lifespan, Individual/Couples/Group/Family Therapy, Psychology and Social Media, Assessment, Medical/Health Psychology, Evidence Based Best Practices, Preventative and Community Psychology, Psychology in the New Insurance Era, the Encompassing Nature of Diversity in Psychology, Advances in Neuropsychology, Mindfulness, Violence Prevention and Treatment, and Working with Challenging Populations. 2015 Continuing Education Workshops: GPA’s Continuing Education program is also seeking proposals for a variety of workshop topics throughout the 2015 calendar year. The Committee encourages submissions of at least three hours or more. Acceptance will be based on, but not limited to, member demand, presenter availability, venue availability timeliness and relevance of the topic and presenter credentials. Programs will be reviewed for appropriateness and quality by the GPA Continuing Education Committee, GPA Annual Meeting Committee and, when relevant, a representative from the Academic community. Many factors contribute to deciding if a proposal is a better fit for the Annual Meeting or as a stand-alone CE workshop. Presenters will be able to indicate their interest in one or both format later in this form. Please prepare the information as specified below and return to GPA. Workshop Information Workshop Title: Workshop Description: Include a description of 100 words or less for marketing materials. Use APA format. This is an APA requirement. Diversity Statement: A multiculturally competent approach to continuing education respects peoples’ complex identities. It acknowledges that there are no “one size fits all” remedies and considers that the specific needs of diverse groups often require modification in how we think about and treat the clients we serve. Please explain how the content of your workshop will consider and address at least one aspect of the general population’s diversity (e.g., differing ages, races, sexual orientations, religions, gender identities, cultures, abilities or socio-economic realities). Description of Learning Objectives Applicants must supply at least three learning objectives and approximately one learning objective for each hour of the workshop. Learning objectives must be measurable and observable behaviors; focused on the learner; use action verbs. USE the words list, describe, explain, assess, critique, demonstrate, discuss, apply, utilize, summarize. DON'T use the words know, understand, learn, become familiar with, learn, gain awareness, etc. as these cannot be observed and measured. (Only include major time periods such as certain months, life events such as weddings, births, etc. that would block off large portions of time, or if you have a major preference to a particular time period.) Audio/Visual: Annual Meeting: GPA will provide the following for Annual Meeting presenters: LCD Projector/Screen, podium, microphone, and house sound (videos, music). Presenters will need to provide their own laptops. Mac users must bring their own Mac adapter for the LCD projector. ___I would like internet connection. (This is only a request. Staff will determine if there are enough presenters who request Internet connections to purchase it for workshop rooms.) Continuing Education Workshops (Stand-alone): On-site Workshops: GPA’s Central office is equipped with a LCD Projector/Screen, Laptop, Presenter Remote, Audio, Wifi, and a Flip Chart. MAC computers must have their own adapter to connect to the LCD. Off-site workshops: Off-site workshops’ AV equipment vary be venue. Yet, GPA typically provides a LCD Projector/Screen, Laptop, microphone for larger workshops, and a Presenter Remote. MAC computers must have their own adapter to connect to the LCD. If you have any other requests, please list them here. Handout Policy: GPA will print a maximum of 20 pages and will print 6 slides per page in black and white, totaling to 120 slides maximum. Handouts will be printed back to back. Annual Meeting Handouts: All accepted presenters will be required to submit handouts by March 20, 2014. Handouts received after March 20, 2014 will not be printed by GPA. GPA also makes handouts accessible to all Annual Meeting attendees electronically in pdf form.
