ÉCOLE MARY HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Opening Week Procedures 2015-2016 We would like to welcome everyone back to a new year at Mary Hill Elementary. We hope everyone has had a fabulous summer break and are ready for the 2015-2016 school year. Information for the first week is below. Please read through it to ensure that students are prepared for the week. Tuesday, September 8, 2015: School will reopen at 8:45 am. Please note that for the week of September 8, 2015, students should NOT bring school supplies with them. Returning Students: All students who attended Mary Hill last year and are now going into grade 1-5 – should go to their classroom from last year from 8:45-9:15. There may be a different teacher in the room from their previous year. During this time, teachers will confirm attendance and distribute notices to go home. New Students: All students new to Mary Hill – Grades 1 to 5 – are asked to go to the Library for attendance. Any students who have not yet registered should go to the Office. Dismissal: All gr 1-5 students will be dismissed by 9:15 am at the latest. New Kindergarten Students: Will attend from 9:30-10:30 All French immersion students should go to room 9 All English students should go to room 14 Parents do not stay with their child during this time. Note: There will be coffee in the gym for parents from 8:45-10:30. Wednesday, September 9th, Thursday September 10th Students in Grades 1 to 5: Will go to the door assigned for their grade level.(grade 1 go to Door 1, grade 2 go to Door 2, grade 3 go to Door 3 and grade 4/5 go to Door 4) The first bell will ring at 8:25 and school starts at 8:30. A notice will be sent home the first day of school outlining door and classroom locations for all grade levels. They will be dismissed from the same door at 2:35 pm. Students will be working with more than one teacher with all the students at the same grade level until we are ready to put them in classes. Students should pack a nutritious snack and lunch every day. Kindergarten Students: Wednesday September 9 – Kindergarten students will attend school from 8:30-9:30. They will be dismissed for the day after this. Those parents who have signed up for welcoming conversations during the remainder of the day will attend with their child. Please bring the getting acquainted form from the Welcome to Kindergarten session in the spring and the items on the form when you have your welcoming conversation. Thursday September 10 - Kindergarten students will attend school from 8:30-9:30 (please pack a nutritious snack for your child). They will be dismissed for the day after this. Those parents who have signed up for welcoming conversations during the remainder of the day will attend with their child. Friday September 11th Professional Development Day – school not in session. Permanent Classes: Once we know our total registration, we will organize students into new classes for the year. When students have been placed in their new class, they will start the next day in that classroom. We will place students as soon as we can. This may not happen until the second week of school being in session. OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE 2nd week Sept 14-18 –attendance for grade 1-5 will be 8:30-2:35, Monday through Friday/ -attendance for kindergarten will be 8:30-10:30 for Monday/Tuesday and 8:30-2:35 Wednesday/Thursday/Friday School Start Supplies: If you ordered supplies through School Start you should have received these at your home. No orders have been received at the school. Forms and Information: We will be activating the online form button on our public website in the upcoming week, once students are in classes. It is very important that forms that are sent home as well as the online ones are done in an expedient manner so that we have the information needed to keep students safe.
