These negative effects are mirrored in our feet long before the effects become apparent in the rest of our body. They appear on the feet as tender and painful areas in the course of a reflexology session. Understanding these reflexes allows a Reflexologist to detect problems early in their development, long before they lead to serious illness. With an awareness of what is happening in the body, we can make choices & change habits to help relieve the negative effect of stress in your life. Reflexology is a natural way to relieve stress & stimulate healing in the body & a healthy body is a body that feels good. Caring for Children’s Stress As caretakers, adults tend to view the world of children as carefree & happy. After all, what could kids possibly have to worry about? Plenty! Even very young children have worries & feel stress to some degree. Babies & younger children worry about things like: Stranger anxiety Separation from parents Non-reality fears (monsters & ghosts) Starting School Older children worry about things like: Academic achievements Peer pressure (trying to fit in) Current events in the world Family illness or death Separation or Divorce It’s not always easy to recognize when our children are stressed. Mood swings, concentration problems, acting out, headaches, stomachaches, eating disorders & bedwetting can all be indicators of high stress & need to be addressed. …continued How can we help our children cope with stress? Proper rest & good nutrition can help. Positive parenting, taking an interest in their life & talking with them openly also help. But the most powerful ways to help are things like laughing together, hugging them often & showing them that they are important. our tomorrows doesn’t really matter either. As long as we nurture hope, not only do we feel more alive but we also have something to live for. So if you are feeling dissatisfied with your life, find something to do, someone to love, or something to hope for. Make your life matter. Your happiness and wellbeing depend on it. Reflexology for Children Natural Sleep Aids We know children get stressed & we also know that children love reflexology because it feels good. We offer reflexology for children as an add on to your one hour session. We read a lot about aromatherapy these days, and most of us probably have scented candles in our homes. Although candles smell nice and lend a certain “ambiance” when lit, do certain smells really help us relax enough so that they may be effective in inducing sleep? For children ages 5 to 15 we will provide a 15 minute reflexology stress buster session for an additional $5.00 per child. “The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” -- Joseph Addison Think about it…It doesn’t really matter what it is that we do as long as we feel that it is necessary. And it doesn’t matter where we happen to find love either, the important thing is that we are loved. And finally, whatever it is that we wish for in 780.722.8755 The answer is yes! Aromatherapy’s “essential oils” have a tiny molecular structure, which allows them to be easily absorbed into the bloodstream. Various scents are known to stimulate the limbic system in our brains, an area responsible for mood, emotions and the regulation of instinctive behavior. Sage, for example, is believed to be a stimulating scent and Lavender, is calming. But what is recommended for sleep? Aside from Lavender, other scents commonly used to induce sleep include: Rose Sandalwood Cypress Marjoram Chamomile Petitgrain Neroli Oil The scents can be diluted in water & vaporized into the air by means of a heat source—usually a candle, light bulb or diffuser— or they can be added to a “carrier oil” such as sweet almond or olive oil, and then applied directly to the skin. They can also be added to a hot bath. There are some precautions for the use of essential oils however. Pregnant women must avoid the use of oils, such as: Basil Sage Clary Sage Myrrh Rosemary Marjoram Thyme And extreme caution must be used when diluting oils for absorption. Never apply essential oils directly to the skin (without mixing with a carrier oil) as you run the risk of burning yourself—which is not the soothing—or stimulating—result you want! Always try a little on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours just in case you have an allergic reaction—just because it’s natural doesn’t mean everyone can use it. Also, be sure to purchase oils from a reputable dealer. Many products are diluted, and therefore are of lesser quality. There’s one other reason why aromatherapy may be effective for inducing sleep. If you are able to concentrate on the smell of the oils—it will help take your mind off of whatever lingering problems or issues are keeping your muscles—and your mind— tense. So just relax, breathe deep, & allow yourself to drift off into a calmer world of peaceful aroma.
