Check out the company website at www.interglobegenetics.com . If you are interested in having your buck(s) collected at the show here are some things you need to know: You will need to have your buck information to Bill no later than August 15, 2014. That is the buck’s complete registry name, registration number, date of birth as well as how many straws you will be wanting. This information can be emailed, faxed or sent by regular mail as long as he gets it by August 15 so that the straws can be printed ahead of time and he has an idea of numbers. Interglobe’s fees per buck for the collection: Straw price is $2.75 each with a minimum of 30 straws purchased If the semen is not strong enough to process, there is a $25 fee. Semen that does not survive the freezing process and must be discarded, there is a $25 fee. Bill will discuss the semen’s quality, if not strong, with the breeder before freezing. Semen will be ready for pickup on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Payment is due at the time of pickup. Bill Nolan Interglobe Genetics 14814 N 1500 East Road Pontiac, IL 61764 815-844-3733 Fax 815-844-3552 Email: info@interglobegenetics.com This is extremely important: Bucks that have not been used for a while will build up a large amount of dead semen. If he has not been flushed out, the semen will not be strong enough to survive the freezing process. Please flush out your buck 5 to 7 days prior to collection. Not by putting him in with a pen of does or penning next to a pen of does that may or may not be in heat. Flushing out means he needs to ejaculate 5 to 6 times by leading him to a doe in heat and actually seeing him breed the doe. The 5 days prior to collection should give the buck plenty of time to build up a strong supply of semen. For any collection questions, contact Gretchen Sims at 660-281-0741 or by email: gsroyalty62@gmailcom. Collection information for your bucks Some reasons why you should collect semen from your bucks and have it preserved: 1. It is a safe and inexpensive way to secure your buck’s genetics before a possible loss. 2. By collecting a buck, you are able to use his semen long after he is gone from your herd or is possibly too old and can no longer be used for natural breeding. It can take many years sometime to see the improvement a buck has made. By having his semen, you can use it for future generations. 3. Semen sales can help the breeder prove the buck’s genetic potential by being used in other herds as well as being able to purchase other buck semen to improve your breeding program. 4. Reduces the cost of feeding and housing a large number of bucks on your farm. Preparing your buck for collection It is important to have good buck management year round. You can’t expect your buck to perform well or to have a good collection if you start just before breeding season. Here are some suggestions to help you in preparing your buck for a good collection. Check with your vet and remember these are just suggestions. 1. Most feeds do not have adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals so additional ones are a must. 2. Plenty of clean fresh water. 3. 1cc per 40 lbs of Bo-Se once a month during the year. 4. 1cc per 40 lbs of natural vitamin E once a month during the year. 5. Keep on top of your buck’s hoof trimming. If he has trouble walking then he will also have problems mounting a doe. 6. Clipping his belly is a good idea to help keep the dirt out of his collection sample. 7. Housing doesn’t need to be fancy but bucks need shelter against wind and rain as well as the sun. 8. For a good collection your buck must be flushed out. This means he needs to ejaculate 5 to 6 times and then be put into a pen by himself for another 5 to 7 days prior to being collected. To do this you may have to alter your breeding program a little by breeding one or two of your does. After the flushing out process is finished you may choose to use hormone therapy to cycle the does you used so they don’t carry any kids, especially if bred by several bucks.
