It is designed for those working as an experienced kitchen or bathroom designer, or in a joinery company specialising in kitchen or bathroom construction. The compulsory section of the qualification covers the knowledge and skills related to applying marketing concepts, managing project time, analysing and applying lighting and technology requirements, analysing and applying surface material and construction requirements, applying styles and themes, producing and presenting developed designs, recording information and producing design calculations, applying the principles and elements of design, and designing a kitchen or bathroom to meet special needs. The elective section of the qualification enables candidates to select unit standards from the Project Management, Systems and Resources Management, Product Design, Professional Practice in Design and Construction Consultancy, and Hospitality Management domains that suit their job roles. Whilst this qualification does not specifically lead on to any other national qualifications, it may be a pathway to other design or joinery qualifications, for example the National Diploma in Design with strands in Graphic Design, Product Design, and Spatial Design [Ref: 0567], or the National Certificate in Joinery (Craftsperson) [Ref: 0386]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award.
