EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS THAT ARE CONSIDERED
REPAIR/REPLACEMENT PROJECTS
Water Supply Systems:
Repair or rehabilitation of an existing water treatment facility
Installation of a water supply system to replace an existing water supply system, regardless of the
differences in capacity between the new and existing system (e.g., 6-inch line replaced by an 8inch line)
Repair or replacement of an existing water storage tank
Installation of a water storage tank to replace an existing reservoir.
Waste Water Systems:
Repair or rehabilitation of an existing waste water treatment facility
Installation of a waste water disposal system that replaces an existing waste water disposal
system, regardless of differences in capacity between new and existing systems
Roads:
Resurfacing or reconstruction of surfaced roads
Resurfacing of a road that has been sealed
Bridges and Culverts:
Construction or installation of a bridge to replace an existing bridge, regardless of the increased
capacity of the new bridge
Construction or installation of a culvert to replace an existing culvert, regardless of the increased
capacity of the new culvert
Storm Water Systems:
Repair or replacement of an existing storm water system.
Solid Waste Facilities:
Rehabilitation or repair of an existing solid waste facility that does not result in increased capacity
of the facility
EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS THAT ARE CONSIDERED
NEW/EXPANSION PROJECTS
Water Supply Systems:
Installation of a water supply system or water treatment facility in an area that is currently not
served by a water supply system. (Private on-site water supply, such as a well for a
household, is not considered a water supply system.)
Extension of an existing water supply system
Installation of a water storage tank in an area that currently is not served by a water storage
tank or reservoir
Waste Water Systems:
Construction of a waste water disposal system or waste water treatment facility in an area that
is currently not served by a waste water disposal system or treatment facility. (Private on-site
waste water disposal, such as a septic tank, is not considered a waste water disposal system.)
Extension of an existing waste water disposal system
Roads:
Paving of a gravel road – a road that has not been sealed and is maintained with a grader
Widening of an existing road in order to create a passing lane (only the created lane portion of the
improvement is categorized as new and expanded)
Bridges and Culverts:
Construction of a bridge at a site in which no bridge currently exists
Construction of a culvert at a site in which no culvert currently exists
Storm Water Systems:
Construction of a storm water system in an area that is currently not served by a storm water
system
Extension of an existing storm water system
Solid Waste Facilities:
Construction of a solid waste facility in an area that is currently not served by a solid waste facility
Expansion of an existing solid waste facility that results in increased capacity
