The papers in this collection were organized and prepared for microfilming by
Monroe Fordham, Freddie Mae Fordham, and Madeline O. Scott. The papers
were filmed by Kelly Allen, Charita Jackson, and LaShawanda Ingram, students
at Buffalo State College. The students worked under the supervision of the
Fordham Regional History Center at Buffalo State College. The students were
paid from a New York State grant.

“The `Liberty Club’ was organized in Olean, NY by a group of African-American
women during World War I. Their purpose was to assist in the war effort. They
raised money through giving dinners and teas to contribute to worthy causes. One
of the founding members was Emma Johnson Cady, great-grandmother of
Madeline O. Scott. There is a scrapbook in this container that has news articles,
letters and other papers that pertain to this group.”
