ABOUT BIOTECHNIQUES 2011: The IVth International Conference on Biotechniques for Air Pollution Control (Biotechniques-2011), will be held in A Coruña, Spain on October 12 - 14, 2011. Biotechniques-2011 covers a wide range of topics pertaining to the application of environmental biotechnology for air pollution control and related areas, through treatment processes in bioreactors and clean (bio) fuels production. Recently, the application range of environmental bioprocesses has been extended and focusses both on the treatment (biodegradation) and prevention of pollution (bioconversion, biofuels). The conference opens new doors to industrial partners in order to facilitate research cooperation between academics and industries, potentially allowing commercialization of new biotechniques. Prospective authors are invited to submit original research and application oriented papers in areas related to the different topics and sub-topics of the conference. GENERAL TOPICS OF THE CONFERENCE: - Treatment of air pollution: use of bacteria, fungi, algae, and plants. - Bioreactors for air pollution control and bioconversion processes. - Prevention of air pollution: Production and development of biofuels, such as (bio)hydrogen, biodiesel, (bio)ethanol, biogas, or desulfurized fuels. SUB-TOPICS OF BIOTECHNIQUES 2011: - Performance and optimization of conventional and new bioreactor designs for air pollution treatment (biofilters, biotrickling filters, phytoremediation processes, etc.). - Performance and optimization of bioprocesses and bioreactors for biocatalysis and biofuels production. - Microbiological aspects of biodegradation: physiology, metabolism and biodegradation pathways of volatile pollutants. - Microbiological aspects of bioconversion: physiology, metabolism and bioconversion pathways to biofuels (biohydrogen, bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, etc.). - Microbial populations in bioreactors, application of molecular techniques. - Microbial strains and improved biocatalysts for the biodegradation of volatile pollutants. - Microbial strains and improved biocatalysts for the production of biofuels from renewable sources or pollutants. - Bioconversion of volatile pollutants to usefull products (for example: conversion of CO, CO2 to biofuels). - Integration of biological and non-biological processes. - Biological gas purification, biodesulfurisation. - Reduction of air pollution and gas emissions with biofuels. - Odour control through bioprocesses. - Industrial, pilot and full-scale applications. - Mathematical modeling of bioprocesses for air pollution control/prevention: Kinetic, phenomenological, empirical and artificial intelligence based models and their applications.
