Since that time, the Foundation has provided scholarship funds annually to needy students who are serious about their educational plans. A native of Denmark, Mr. Svarre was an original founder of the Sidney Livestock Market Center, and farmed and fed cattle in the Sidney area for many years. He believed in the value of hard work, and was a leader in efforts to improve the economy of his community. In their later years, the Svarres contributed both time and money to many worthwhile causes, especially those which are designed to benefit young people who need assistance for a start in life. Favorite charities were Yellowstone Boys Ranch, Concordia College and the Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. Svarre and the Svarre Foundation were major donors to initiate the building of the new swimming pool in Sidney, now named for Mr. & Mrs. Svarre. Applicants for a Svarre Foundation Scholarship need to realize that serious academic effort is required to retain a scholarship once awarded. DAYTON FOUNDATION The Dayton Foundation was established in 1980 by Lela Dayton. Lela and Oakley Dayton farmed and ranched in Western Richland County for many years. Mrs. Dayton was office manager for S&H Cattle Company and Yellowstone Livestock Company for nearly 40 years. Since the Foundation was formed, it has provided annual scholarship funds to needy students with serious educational goals. The Dayton ranch continues to provide income to fund these scholarships. Water rights were developed with assistance from Frank Daniels, a long time operator of the ranch. These rights have contributed to the current value of the ranch. Applicants for a Dayton Foundation Scholarship should realize that continuing use of awarded scholarship funds require serious academic effort. ____________________________________________
