SG2 would like to thank SG11 for sending us the liaison on M.3170 series of Recommendations
conformance testing pilot project (Ref: SG11 - LS 30 -E). We will follow the agreement to carry out
the conformance testing pilot project on M.3170 series of Recommendations.
During the ITU-T SG2 meeting of May 28 to June 6, 2014, we received a contribution C-61,
providing the conformance testing specification for M.3170 series of Recommendations. We agreed
to start a new work item M.3170-cts on this topic, and use C-61 as the baseline text for this work
item. This work will be progressed further more through interim meetings.
We would also like to inform you about the progress and future plans for the pilot project, which
are listed as follows:
1. Testing Specification drafting
a) A new draft Recommendation M.3170-cts (The conformance testing specification for the
MTNM interface in Recommendations M.3170 series) was started, and will likely be
consented in the next SG2 plenary meeting (March, 2015)
b) The contents of M.3170-cts are as following:
- the principals for the conformance testing of MTNM interface
- the testing method that will be used for the conformance testing for the MTNM interface
- the scope and the contents that will be tested for M.3170 series conformance, and,

- the ICS proforma definitions for the MTNM IDL interface.
c) This draft Recommendation will support the conformance testing for SDH/WDM/Ethernet
related Network Management Interfaces.
2. Testing tools developing
The CORBA-based interface testing system was already completed according to ITU-T X.781 and
draft M.3170-cts with the following functions:
a) Test document generation
b) Test cases generation
c) Test execution functions
3. Demonstration for the pilot project will be started from June according to draft M.3170-cts
a) Selected Testing Lab: Infotel Networking Testing Lab
- ISO 17025 certification
- CMA certification
- Testing experience in Mobile, Transport, Access, IP network management interface testing
field
- Testing experience for CORBA, SNMP, Q3 management protocols
b) Selected Operators: China Southern Power Grid Company Limited
- COBRA based SDH network management interface testing
c) Selected equipment vendors: FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co., Ltd.
- SDH equipments and EMS
