DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING AND EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
Foundational Resources for Preparing for the
COPS Written Doctoral Qualifying Examinations
Spring, 2008
The faculty prepared this list to help provide some guidance for students who are preparing for
the COPS DQE. This list is offered to guide students to resources which the faculty believes are
helpful in preparing for the exam, but it is not offered as a definitive list of the important
publications in the field or as a list of ‘required readings’ for the exam. Students need to know
that some highly important publications may not appear on the list at all—in fact, important
recent publications are unlikely to appear on this list because it is updated just once per year. In
developing the list, the faculty has also asked students who recently took the exam for their input
regarding the references which they found most useful in preparing for the exam.
