A special presentation on “Thai Silk to the World”

It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you here today at SACICTthe SUPPORT Arts and Crafts international Centre of Thailand. The
special occasion today introduces Thailand’s famous Thai silk, through
a special presentation on “Thai Silk to the World”.
SACICT was established in October 2003 and operates under the
supervision of the Ministry of Commerce as a public organization. Her
Majesty the Queen’s gracious concern for the rural village communities
is the foundation for SACICT’s mission, which is to promote and
support handicraft activities that provide supplementary income for their
live. We help to market exquisite Thai handicrafts both within Thailand
and internationally.
In line with Her Majesty’s endeavor, our goal is to develop and refine
traditional Thai arts and crafts towards excellence in the region in
collaboration with other cultures. The challenge for arts and crafts lies
in creativity of Thai craftsmen. This is a key, not only to national
competitiveness under globalization, but also to the preservation of
Thai culture and heandicrafts for future generations.
Under the creative economy policy, the development of Thai
handicrafts is encouraged not only in terms of variety, but more
importantly, also for Thai heritage value, cultural identity, and aesthetic
uniqueness. This is embodied in Thai silk, which offers a variety of
colors, textures and patterns. The weaving techniques reflect the
creativity, culture, beliefs and lifestyle of each and every Thai ethnicity.
This is the priceless value of Thai handicraft, which is promoted by

SACICT throughout the World. And today, Her Majesty the Queen’s
efforts serves to preserve the intangible knowledge and skills of these
craftsmen as resource, on which industries have now developed in
every Thai province to provide a constant stream of income at the
village level.
In my capacity as the Deputy Minister of Commerce responsible
related strategy and policy, I hope that honorary guest will gain new
insights on Thai silk from this special presentation, and appreciate
Thai silk as a representative of Thailand to the World.
