Background
The British Ballet Organization is delighted to be able to continue offering extra training to selected talented BBO students who show technical and artistic potential.
We are especially proud to have extended our Scholarship schemes in 2012 to include two new Male Scholarship classes. All our schemes run from January to
December each year and are ongoing so students are not expected to re-audition every year. However, the Chief Executive may use his discretion to suspend or cancel a Scholarship on the grounds of unbecoming conduct, insufficient progress or regular non-attendance at class. All Scholars will receive outstanding tuition from some of the most respected teachers in the country. The distinguished professionals that make up the faculty for all our schemes have been carefully selected due to their proven expertise and ability to inspire students. These first class teachers work hard with our Scholars at improving both their technique and performance skills. The specialised training that our Scholars receive has enable many of them to gain places at many of the UK’s finest vocational dance schools, leading to careers as professional dancers.

Entry Requirements
SENIOR BALLET
Open to female students aged 13 years and above by 1 st January 2013 who have successfully passed Intermediate Foundation Ballet.
JUNIOR BALLET
Open to female students aged 10 years and above by 1 st January 2013 who have successfully passed Grade 4 Ballet.
Junior Ballet Scholarships conclude once students have reached 13 years of age and have successfully passed their Intermediate Foundation ballet examination. Students are then eligible to audition for either a Senior Ballet or Jazz Scholarship. Students who only fulfil one of these criteria will be assessed on an individual basis.
JAZZ
Open to male and female students aged 13 years and above by 1 st January 2013 who have successfully passed Grade 4 Ballet.
JUNIOR MALE
Open to male students aged 10 years and above by 1 st January 2013 who have successfully passed Grade 2 Ballet.
SENIOR MALE
Open to male students aged 12 years and above by 1 st January 2013 who have successfully passed Grade 5 Ballet.
ALL scholarship candidates MUST be a student of a BBO registered Teacher.
Monthly Classes
Each Scholars session will consist of two 1
½
hour non syllabus classes.
FEMALE BALLET Classical Ballet Classes, accompanied by a pianist. These classes will include strengthening & stretching exercises as well as Classical Ballet repertoire. There is also Pointe work for Senior Ballet Scholars
MALE BALLET
JAZZ
Classical Ballet Classes, accompanied by a pianist. These classes will specialise in male ballet technique with stretching
& strengthening exercises, Classical Ballet repertoire and male allegro work.
Varying dance techniques and styles with repertoire from
Musical Theatre and West End shows.

Our Senior Ballet, Junior Ballet South, Jazz South, Junior Male and Senior Male
Scholars classes will be held on Sundays at:

There are a total of 9 sessions each year (6 sessions per year currently for the Male
Ballet schemes). These consist of 8 monthly classes (5 for male ballet students) plus a
“Scholars Weekend” in October.
Scholars Weekend
All Scholars are expected to attend the Scholars Weekend. This will be held at either
Elmhurst School for Dance in Birmingham or at a London venue and will cost approximately £160 for the 2 day residential course. Details will be forwarded to all scholars as soon as they are finalised. Full information and booking forms will also be available to download from the website – www.bbo.org.uk

Attendance
Students are expected to attend ALL their monthly classes as well as the Scholars
Weekend in October. If candidates cannot commit to all sessions due to school work/trips and/or other dance commitment then should not apply.
Parents/Guardians should be made aware of the monthly travelling costs, annual fee
(£85) and Scholars Weekend (£160) before committing to the scheme.

or on 0208 748 1241 as soon as possible.
Costs
The annual fee for our Scholarship schemes is £90. This amount includes all class and administrative costs for the year and is payable BEFORE commencing your first class in January each year.

Dress Code
BALLET - Female
A BBO leotard applicable to the Scholar’s current grade and pink ballet tights.
Soft shoes for all ballet Scholars plus pointe shoes for Senior Ballet Scholars.
BALLET – Male
Black tights with a white T Shirt or singlet. Black or white shoes with corresponding socks.
JAZZ
A catsuit or leotard and tights/jazz pants plus jazz shoes. No baggy tracksuits will be allowed.

Candidates can apply for both Senior Ballet and Jazz, but will only be awarded one
Scholarship place.
Candidates who wish to attend Scholars north should audition in the North and likewise, candidates who wish to attend Scholars South should audition in the South.
Please note:
 Auditions will be non syllabus based classes appropriate to the standard of the candidates

Audition fees are non transferable and non refundable.

Students MUST fulfil the entry requirements – applications from students who do not meet the necessary criteria will not be accepted.

Audition forms MUST be signed by a Parent/Guardian as well as the candidate’s BBO Teacher.
