Martin Luther King Jr.
There were many civil rights leaders before. Some of them are
Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and Martin Luther King Jr. This essay will
specifically focus on Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a
very important person. He was a person with a dream to stop segregation,
have freedom, and be treated the same way as all the white people.
When African American people protested for freedom, the white people
would get mad and they would spray them with water from fire hoses and
police officers would let their dogs attack the African Americans. Dr. King
was arrested many times, but that never stopped this strong man. He
gave many speeches and tried to convince people to stop segregation.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American civil rights leader
who stood against segregation. Dr. King had a very good education. He
attended many schools and colleges. He was very smart when he was a
child. Dr. King was so smart that he even skipped the ninth and twelfth
grades. He was involved in churches too. Martin Luther King Jr. had four
children. Their names were Yolanda Denise, Martin Luther lll, Dexter Scott,
and Bernice Albertine.
Dr. King did not like segregation. He strived to abolish
segregation and to be treated the same way as all the white people
were treated. He was arrested many times for protesting. Martin Luther
King Jr. was special though. Unlike other people who protested, Dr. King
fought with words not violence.
According to Scholastic, President Obama says, “It’s humbling to
know that it’s only because of the men and women of the NAACP, only
because of those Freedom Riders and civil rights workers, those protesters,
preachers, and teachers that I can come before you as President of the
United States.” I think Dr. King’s dream has mostly been fulfilled in America
today. His dream has been fulfilled because now African-American
people are allowed to do whatever whites are allowed to do. They can
drink from the same water fountain and play sports together. Martin Luther
King Jr. stopped segregated schools and black people are allowed to go
to any school and be friends with white people. Without Martin Luther King
Jr., Ruby Bridges, and Rosa Parks America would not be where it is today.
To recap, Martin Luther King Jr. was an African-American civil
rights leader whose dream was to stop segregation and to be treated
fairly. After many years, his dream finally came true. Dr. King died while he
was standing out in a balcony at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee because
he was shot by James Earl Ray. He was sent to jail for ninety-nine years.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a very special African-American civil rights
leader and he made a big difference.
