CIRGE - International Doctoral Education Conference – Update #5 -
Dear Participants,
Please review the following updates and requests, thanks.
CONFERENCE STARTS
September 6th 4:30 – 8:00 with a Drop-in Hospitality & Reception Gathering.
CONFERENCE ENDS
September 10th after lunch.
Buses to Seattle will leave at 1:30 with an estimated arrival time in Seattle of 5:00pm.
The buses will make stops at both SEA-TAC Airport and the Silver Cloud Inn-University
Village.
URGENT –PLEASE BOOK YOUR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE
I have received travel confirmations from several participants.
For those of you who have not yet made your travel arrangements please contact Dan
Burke as soon as possible- (dburke@passport2travel.net)
The availability of seats is quickly decreasing and costs are on the rise.
VISA REQUIREMENTS AND LETTERS OF INVITATIONS - We have recently
FedEx's letters of invitations for visa purposes to participants requiring visas to the US.
Please let me know if you have NOT received your Letter and need one. The visa
process so far has been taking a very long time.
LOGISTICES - Tuesday September 6th
We hope you can all arrive on Tuesday September 6th by midday to participate in our
late afternoon and evening events.
First Night Stay – Silver Cloud Inn-University Village

We have finalized reservations for your first night (a CIRGE covered expense) at the
Silver Cloud Inn, which is within walking distance to the University.
(When you check in please mention CIRGE international Conference).
(Transportation from the airport to the hotel will be arranged when we have everyone’s
travel schedule and itineraries).
Hospitality Room & Reception Gathering September 6th, 4:30 to 8:00 pm.
We hope you can come, mingle, enjoy a drink accompanied by Northwest delicacies, and
receive your conference package.
This will take place at the Walker Ames Room in Kane Hall, on UW campus:

(Transportation from the hotel to the campus and back will be provided every half hour).
LOGISTICES - Wednesday September 7th
The conference will start on Wednesday with an 8:00 am breakfast at the Walker Ames
Room and an official welcome by President Emmert, the University Provost and our
Graduate Dean.
(Transportation provided).
“Round Table Discussion” of selected themes will follow. These will include visits to
UW programs and projects that were of interest to the participants.
Following lunch on campus, we will take a bus to the Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat,
a 2-3 hour scenic drive through the countryside.
We’ll arrive at retreat center in time for a short rest and relaxation followed by
Champagne & Hors d’Hoeuvres, dinner and a short evening opening ceremony.
LOGISTICES - September 7-10th
We will be at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat for the duration of the conference.
The retreat is surrounded by wilderness, rivers, and hiking trails.

Attire should be casual and appropriate for hot weather - 80F and up (26C +)
LOGISTICES - Saturday September 10th
The conference ends after lunch. Buses will leave at 1:30pm from the conference center
to the Seattle-Tacoma airport and the Silver Cloud Inn with approximate arrival time in
Seattle of 5:00 pm.

COMMISSIONED PAPERS
Thank you to all of you who sent me their Commissioned Papers.
We are eagerly looking forward to receive the rest. These will be posted on our website
by July 29th to give everyone an opportunity to read them before the conference.
